Not sure why Nebraska has Purdues number but this is one of their worst performances of the year so far letβs see if they can turn it around and at home not a good sign going into December nebraska is a bad matchup for purdue. tough serving and great floor defense. they're outdoing what purdue does to other teams. That's what I was getting at earlier in the thread. At least the first part. LOL

Nebraska is taking some dainty swings this match. Okay, not gonna lie--that made me laugh.

There's the Stivrins slide in a three-hitter rotation. Iconic. I am *so* gonna miss seeing that. And the little dance she does after it scores.

Back from the match π’ lucky shirt (loser) exiled to bottom of laundry bag π great play by Huskers on this long road trip π Boilers looked so bad in those first two sets with unforced errors π³ amazed they won set 3 π Huskers with no mercy in set 4 π¬ with the loss, my Boiler VT record prediction is 100% accurate at 23-6 π great visit pre match with VAC Kelly Hunter (who CK met with her mom and sister Lindsay when she was just 10) and VAC Ryan Voderer (former Lindenwood libero who was on many of my MIVA broadcasts)π good luck to Nebraska in the tourney but Boiler Up Purdue πππ Now that's class, CK. Good luck to the Boilers in the tourney! I'll be rooting for you (unless we meet again somehow).

I canβt figure Nebraska out. So good at timesβ¦so bad at others. Freshman playing key roles still developing. Roddie had an incredible game tonight.

So, I'm new to this message board, but not new to sports, coaching, or even volleyball. I watched the match tonight, hoping for a great performance out of Purdue - I suppose it was out of human emotion for the coaches who had just lost their dad. I wasn't expecting Purdue to win - but I was hoping they'd at least play well.
Well, they didn't win, and it's because they didn't play well. During the few stretches that Purdue got things going, it seemed like, overall, they were the better team. They just had a really bad night.
As a former, long-tenured coach of boys, girls, and women's sports, I can say that I have actually experienced coaching teams, watching teams, and coaching against teams that had experienced a loss similar to the magnitude that the Shondell brothers faced this week. I began reporting on high school sports a few years before I stopped coaching them. I realized, when I asked the tough questions (as well as reading stories of other's), that losses of classmates, family members, and school or community members really affected the whole team - amd often times, entire school or community.
I am not here to give a pass to Purdue's less than stellar performance tonight - but I do understand why they may not have been their normal selves. To me, it just seemed like the team was exhausted - and much of that may have been emotional exhaustion.
I wish both teams nothing but success in the tournament. I'm more of an ACC guy, typically, but there is no doubt that in Volleyball, the Big Ten is the best in the business.
I thought I'd give my two cents here, as a neutral and fairly experienced fan. I hope my post wasn't too long for this message board. Just thought my thoughts could help to lend some perspective of what I watched, and of what I understand.

Krause is a national-teamer and would be the one I think is most likely to end up with the best collegiate career of the 3 frosh OHs. Batenhorst #2, Lowenstein #3. Batenhorst was also on that team. But regardless, I have no issue with them battling it out for who can reach the highest. Haha def no favoritism-I think Krause will be great as well. I was referring to the USA Womenβs National Team. I think Krause has the best shot of making it there. But it must be nice to have all three of them at the same time. Might be nicer though if their entry years were spread out a little more for greater impact.

Nebraska needs to prove that they can win a tough game. They can go into the tournament with a little confidence. Mission accomplished!!! Now give us a draw where we match up well. Please no Louisville, Texas or Wisconsin in our bracket.

I wouldn't read anything into this game, some teams just match up against a specific team better than others - or worse. This happens in all sports lol I beg to differ. This game determines if Nebraska finishes 2nd or like 6th.. so far from the point that no azimuth could correct this course

Being in the gym, I would agree with the low energy observation for the Boilers, but I think the incredible defense played by the Huskers was a contributor. Rip after rip kept coming up and back across the net--that just *has* to be demoralizing.
I do think the Shondell loss had an effect. My own view is that the death of a UNL volleyball student manager in Oct 2019 had a significant negative effect on the Nebraska squad. It seemed to me they never fully recovered their equilibrium that season. I'm not sure the Boiler players had the same level of connection to their coach's father, but there is no doubt an effect even if only direct. Hope they can shake it off and do well in the tourney!

Really nice win by Nebraska, confirming my belief that despite the loss to Wisconsin the Huskers are actually better suited to get to a regional final (at least) than any other non-host team. The back row defense is the best in the country and can absorb a lot of random unexpected issues by various teams with a wide range of strengths and weaknesses. It also lessens the Husker's own occasional lapses on less than terminal hitting and less than optimal setting.
Their biggest problem will be that they are 99.9% likely to end up in one of the 3 regionals that they DON'T match up well, even with their great back row: Texas, Wisconsin, or Louisville.

My biggest takeaway from last night was how mundane the 6th ranked and one of the hottest teams in the nation played when their opponent was siding out at extremely high percentages. How can you build rhythm and momentum when you can't score while serving? Your block has to be lights out and the opponent has to error at a very high rate. Purdue's block was very good and that was not nearly enough. I watch a lot of Purdue and they depend on Newton, Cleveland, and Otec to make the big plays. Nebraska makes Cleveland disappear, the block and Roddy had Newton altering shots and erroring, and the middles nullify Otec. Great serving, gameplan, and execution= a nice win.

Purdue really need to do away with the in system d balls to Newton and Cleveland. They rarely score and usually give just a free down ball to opponents. It happened a lost last night where Purdue would get an in system option in trans and just set a D ball and Cleveland or Newton would just hit a ball without much pace right at a defender.
