wait, WBB is more popular than WVB ? WBB is a lot more popular (for ESPN, etc.) than WVB. WBB 2021 Championship 4.077M Late semi-final 2.692M Early semi-final 1.676M WBB 2019 Championship 3.689M Late semi-final 2.139M Early semi-final 1.485M WBB 2018 Championship 3.536M Late semi-final 2.280M Early semi-final 1.510M WVB 2021 Championship 696k WVB 2019 Championship 533K WBB 2018 Championship 938K I couldn't find the ratings for the semi-finals Yes, when you undersell the WVB product for years (despite climbing participation numbers greater than WBB) and only show three matches a year on ESPN you’ll get these numbers. Also HTH with basketball tv times is a problem. Move it to the spring and there would be no tv competition.

The same is true of WBB, though to a somewhat lesser extent. They aren't going to move wvb to the spring. And last spring, WBB was over on April 4 and MBB on April 5. There was no overlap with the WVB tournament yet WVB got a lot fewer viewers than WBB. ESPN shows a lot more WVB matches than three a year but you often have to pay for extra packages like SEC+, ACC+ or the Longhorn Network to watch the matches you want. Even if you don't, you can still watch quite a bit of volleyball on ESPN. It definitely doesn't get promoted like MBB, though.

They're not moving women's volleyball to the spring. John Cook would like to see volleyball moved to the spring. I'm sure he would, but if his opinion mattered that much, volleyball would have better national TV coverage.

They're not moving women's volleyball to the spring. John Cook would like to see volleyball moved to the spring. His argument is that Friday night volleyball matches compete against high school football for spectators.

Seeding the teams 1-64 will take away a lot of the politics LOL, no it won't. There will be 4x as many complaints. However, it is the right thing to do. At least get rid of the unfairness of fly-in/drive-in seeding. (And replace it with the unfairness of the committee deciding they just like a team better because one of them saw a match with that team and they looked good.)

They're not moving women's volleyball to the spring. John Cook would like to see volleyball moved to the spring. Yes, of course he would, because it would favor Nebraska. Most schools who play VB in the same gym as BB would be pretty hosed by the dramatically increased number of schedule conflicts, though.

Oh, and back to the original topic:
I still stand by my position that they just need to let everyone in the tournament. 340 single elimination. Granted, I'd prefer a double- or even triple-elimination format, but in the end, let them all in.

What if the top-2 teams from each conference were AQs, and they took twice as many at-large teams, making it a 128-team tournament. And then they made the subregionals eight teams instead of four. That would add only one match but get twice as many teams into the tournament. Of course, that might mean twice as much travel costs, which the NCAA would choke on.

Double the teams in the tournament and seed the first 64.
128-team tournament. The first match is played at the home of the seeded teams.
Then move to the 'sub-regionals' = home court advantage to the top 16 remaining seeds.
Dump the regionals and move the final 16 to Vegas for a week-long tournament. 4 games on day one. 4 games on day two.
Two days off then the semi-finals and championship match.
It may not solve many of the problems some of us are griping about - in fact it will create a lot of new challenges - but it would also create a blockbuster annual finish to the "Tournament."
