FWIW, Texas Tech has the best win (#5) this year compared to Penn St (#9 or #12). would you pick tech head to head against PSU? The team who almost beat Wisconsin on their home court ? That's not the question though. Who would I pick in a Head to Head? Probably PSU, but I honestly haven't seen much TT. The question is, could the committee use a win over Baylor as justification to rank TT 1 spot higher than PSU? It's not like we're comparing Penn St vs Howard or Citadel. We're talking about the second round match up for #2 compared to #3. Both of those teams have the ability to upset a seeded team.

TT pulled off the baylor upset but Baylor is one of the more inconsistent ranked teams. I truly think if TT played Penn states schedule they wouldn’t have even been selected for the tournament… the entire big 12 RPI is inflated. This one requires a little more than just looking at stats and records.

This is certainly the result of geography and conference. Penn State is a drive-in for Pitt. Tech couldn't be a drive-in to either Austin or Waco because they are in the same conference as Texas and Baylor.

I don't know why the committee rated the B1G12-3 so highly, but TTU is the 6th ranked Big12 team as is PSU. Yes, I'd expect PSU to beat them handily. I'd also expect Maryland and maybe Northwestern to give TTU a run for their money.
But what can you do? The committee thought the Big12 was great this year - and Pitt is in PSU's region. That will be a spicey match and it's about time PSU seems some real competition in the early rounds.
FWIW, UW has not always had extraordinarily easy draws of late. Mac May and UCLA was there in 2019 in second round when they were seeded 4th as well! Things do even out - eventually.

And, when Wisconsin was the No. 6 seed a few years ago, getting Oregon in the first round. That was neat.

Look, they had to do something with Penn State's cupcakes.

Well, FGCU pulled a surprise reverse sweep and beat Texas Tech. Nice upset. Saw them in the North Concourse after the game - families were super happy and the players were very excited.

Without looking up the actual percentages, IIRC after two sets FGCU was hitting negative, I think it was 13 kills and 15 errors. and I wrote down their final numbers from the scoreboard: 50 kills and 21 errors.
So over the last three sets, 37 kills and 5 errors. Just crazy how it turned around for them.

I didn’t catch the match - for some reason the toddler won’t sit through five hours of volleyball - but I plan to watch it today. I’m told it’s FGCU’s defense that fueled the comeback.

Lots of kids from the Midwest on FGCU’s roster, including Lauren Clark, who played both high school and club with Hilley & Ashburn! I love postseason reunions.
They have kids from the Milwaukee and Chicago area, Indy, and Ohio. Bet they’ll have a big contingent of parents supporting.
