Great match by the Gophers! They pretty much controlled the whole game. Super impressed by Wenaas (she's going to be an all-star), and Miyabe playing 6 rotations, and Kilkelly had some great digs. Well done Gophers! Onto Sweet 16!

c'mon, we've never been an energy program. we've always been so steady emotionally. even when the greats do something otherworldly, they quietly move on to the next point. a few exceptions in there. having at least one energy person is helpful though! Which, for most of the last 30 years when we've just been better than most other teams, has worked very well.
But, kinda along with what the color commentator was saying, when you're the underdog you need to dig a little deeper into your passion reservoir, and you need more energy to help you find an edge. They found it with Inky in '16. But last season and this, Stanford has been more of an underdog, and they've needed something else to get to the next level. And they haven't really found it with any consistency.
very true. though, the most obvious area to dig deeper is in floor defense. i don't think they're not trying. i just don't think they've very good. our pins are very tall and all lack the all-around game that we're used to with our OHs. even giants like plummer and klineman had much better ball control/defensive instincts than our current pins. the back row players are just not good enough to play against teams at this level. we need a top flight libero who will lead the defense and, to your point, play with some fire.

Only 5 digs each for Samedy and Shaffmaster. Tactical error by Stanford to not hit to right back more often.

Glad they interviewed Wenaas. Good for her....she had an outstanding match. The whole team came together and had each other's backs this entire match.

Did Minnesota just go the whole game without using a single substitutions? Impressive. I didn't notice this wow! International queens! Did we even take a time out?

I'm hoping the Card gets a real libero and another good DS. We also need to have both Anabelle and Leila to start playing!

I did not see the match but thrilled and surprised to see THAT result. Was this the Gophs best played match of the year?

My favorite thing about this year for the Gophers? Seeing Wenaas and Miyabe grow up into excellent players.
The difference between the first couple of matches and the end of this season is HUGE.

Did we even take a time out? Minnesota never needed one.

Completely agree! We need a real libero plus another good DS. And another 6RO OH. Not sure Francis can cut it as OH.
