need the resident Canadians on the board to coordinate some "ChoosetoCompete" thing with the crowd. I'm thinking T-shirts or posters of some kind. make it happen.

Has anyone heard when Calgary tickets go on sale? My Christmas present to my parents was the promise of VNL tickets… don’t want to miss my chance to get tickets and look like an @$$%*!*! 😅

I don't know...Calgary is not exactly a hot-bed for volleyball. Then again, neither is Louisiana.

question for my Canadian people: what would be the best city to host a volleyball tournament in? Toronto? Vancouver?
now that I'm thinking about it, I'm still upset about Shreveport. Chicago like they did for the men would've been amazing.

I don't know...Calgary is not exactly a hot-bed for volleyball. Then again, neither is Louisiana. Believe me, I'd much rather be going to a Canadian city that week than driving four hours to Shreveport. But, at the risk of sounding too provincial, since the tournament is in Shreveport, note that the last time the USA women played there (well, really Bossier City) they clinched their Olympic bid. And Louisiana as a hotbed? We have our moments. In 2008, the USA Olympic roster was one-sixth from Louisiana (Danielle Scott of Baton Rouge and Kim Willoughby from Napoleonville). Former Louisiana national-team members include Penny Lucas from Baton Rouge and Lizzie Fitzgerald from New Orleans. One of the best players right now for Hawai'i is Amber Igiede, who is from Baton Rouge. And VolleyballMag.com corporate HQ is in Baton Rouge ...

I mean, probably Vancouver with it being so close to where the national team trains and the national excellence program… but I live in Alberta so I’m super excited to have the chance to watch vball so close to home. Most of the time when big events or concert tours come to Canada they go to Toronto and Vancouver and skip over everything in between.

Both are obviously great choices I moved to Toronto from Alberta last year and I had to say I am still adjusting to Toronto. Between Vancouver and Toronto, I'd pick Vancouver. Toronto's summer is too hot for me, and the traffic is really bad. Vancouver's subway is more convenient better than Toronto's. However I think Calgary might actually be a better choice for the sake of a volleyball tournament - nice weather (May - September), nicer people, easy traffic, and almost everything is cheaper than Vancouver/Toronto.

But I wouldn't say it ranks up there with California, Nebraska, Texas, Minnesota or Michigan in producing volleyball talents.

However I think Calgary might actually be a better choice for the sake of a volleyball tournament - nice weather (May - September), nicer people, easy traffic, and almost everything is cheaper than Vancouver/Toronto. Weather-wise Vancouver is the best out of all the major Canadian cities. Its winters are mild by Canadian standards (often above freezing during the day) and the Coastal Mountains provide a scenic backdrop. In the summer, it seldom gets as hot as the prairie provinces or Ontario or Quebec. And their "subway" is actually call the Skytain, since a substantial portion of it is on elevated tracks above ground. Calgary gets occasional relief from the bitter winter cold due to the Chinook wind from the Rockies, whereas Edmonton further up north only gets very mild relief from it due to its further distance from the Rockies. Toronto being the biggest city in Canada probably has the most to offer in terms of stuff-to-do. Its winters can be pretty cold on occasion but usually not as bad as Calgary or Edmonton. Montreal further east is a nice city culture-wise, with a distinct European feel. But unless you are fluent in French, getting around can be a bit of a hassle. The major Canadian cities with the longest and coldest winters are probably Winnipeg, Saskatoon and Regina, do NOT go there now if you can't stand -30 C/-22 F weather.
