Ok... I just watched the whole Louisville press conference (linked above). What an amazingly well spoken team - especially Tori. They seem so grounded, focused, prepared, together - I can see how Dani's leadership of that program led them to where they are today. Obviously, I won't be rooting for them tomorrow, but if they win, I'll be pulling hard for them in the final. I love their style of play and they have a new fan in me for future seasons. They really are a good bunch of folks, on and off the court. I am still chuckling about someone in the forums the other day calling Claire Chaussee shy, though. There's not a shy bone in her body.

I fear this is true. I hope she rises to the occasion.

Wisconsin scored 8 points on Ashburn's serves Saturday night. She can serve underhand, and Rettke gets a block or kill = I.A. must be first team All-Big Ten! Have you seen her serve? Oh wait...she's aced your team plenty.

I am rooting for Louisville, so I can avoid another argument that the only reason Retke is so successful is that she’s 7 foot tall. That was a touchy subject.

So you choose to bring it up on a message board. Good thinking. That will be a more effective way of not starting an argument than if you had not brought it up at all.

John Cook started the trend of recruiting tall players, when he recruited Kelly Kennedy-Sauer (6'4") to the badgers in 1996. Interestingly, she was shorter than Rettke by the exact amount that you are exaggerating Rettke's height - 4".

What makes Rettke so successful as a 6.8" player was her dancing classes as a young girl. IMO, this taught her balance, how to move her feet, and how to be in touch and in control of every inch of her tall body. I believe Rettke has another level that we haven't seen and hopefully will see when she joins starts playing again for the National Team.

Since the Badgers have had a 6'7 player who has graciously ridden the bench for four years, I am positive Rettke's success is not her height. You should visit the Pitt thread and read about Member-Menah.

Obviously. But just as obviously, those two bring other benefits by being on the floor, and you get a limited number of subs to use in a given set, and Sheffield uses them all. If teams were hitting that seam "time after time" and it was the flaw you want to make it out to be, then they would not be having the success they have. If you have a better suggesting for a substitution rotation, then lay it out for us. But don't just pick one aspect in isolation. Somebody had commented that Busboom Kelly will be telling her team "If you see Orzol and Loberg next to each other in SR, that's your target. Hit that spot and you win." Of course, it's not quite as simple as that. I didn't say there's a better option, because I'd rather have Orzol and Loberg passing than any of the bench/rotational options. But it's a weak spot in serve-receive teams are trying hard to exploit. Let's hope they can hold up tomorrow night, because quick side outs may be more important in this match than in any they've played all year ... because Louisville is good and all. Sorry everybody is coming at you Colby when I AM THE ONE WHO MADE THE INITIAL COMMENT. Responding to the criticism you are receiving. Yes, Orzol and Loberg together are a weak spot in serve receive. Yes, Loberg bails out far too much as somebody who is in a primary passer position. This is most obviously not the only thing L'ville will be using for their entire game plan, to even suggest that is just looking to troll other responders. Nobody is suggesting better rotations because that is also a dumb comment, this is the lineup they have settled on and one they have successfully used for the past 2 months. It can be a bad lineup and still be successful, they are not mutually exclusive. It is a weak point though and to suggest it isn't is akin to an ostrich sticking its head in the ground. When I saw the responses to you, I thought Nebraska posters and all of their defensiveness had suddenly taken over the match thread. Certainly not much difference.

Interesting. A surge of voters for Louisville has made this poll a virtual dead heat, but the one for the other semi is still about 57% for Nebraska.
I guess it's fan confidence built on past success.
