So out of 119 voters in this thread, 57% of them think Nebraska will win. Pitt has a 30-3 record with SOS rank of 2. Neb has a 25-7 record with SOS rank of 8. The expectations of people on this board are a mismatch with this season's results. I must conclude that the great many Husker fans here have let their excitement override rational thinking. I understand the point you are making. However, just a few thoughts to consider that may help explain why Nebraska is being picked. 1.) Nebraska has multiple key players who have been at this stage And have freshman who have competed for the National team on big stages. 2.) Nebraska coaching staff, especially John Cook has been here so many times and I think that gives them the edge in that category. 3.) Nebraska is playing very loose - they are the underdogs and they are enjoying that role. 4.) Nebraska went to Texas and beat Texas last game. The momentum and confidence the team has from that is huge. 5.) The difference between a SOS 2 and 8 isn’t that big. To end the season Nebraska played Penn State at home, then at Wisconsin and at Purdue and last game at Texas. 6.)What’s the biggest crowd Pitt has played in front of this year? (This one is small but still important). Basically what I am saying is there are a lot of factors at play where one picking Nebraska isn’t a slight to Pitt or someone being a homer. Now all that said as a die hard Husker fan - I legit see this as 50/50 but am more confident than I was for the Texas game (saw that as 25/75).

Didn't Kentucky win the first time being on a national stage? Or does a spectator-less event not count?

These are both rather meaningless stats. . Oh, I certainly agree 100%. Odd that nobody said that to the neb poster though I read from back to front - so I ran across your response first. My answer applies equally to both posts. It's fun dialoguing about sport outcomes, but in the end, all of the stats and opinions become as relevant as a squirt gun at a forest fire.

I think it would have maybe been a little different if 17k people were there but that’s not Kentuckys fault. Also teams can very much win on the national stage without being there before.. Kentucky. But it is not an easy task, which is why I think Nebraska being there before will help.

40% of the vote is pretty good with 15% of the fans in the forum:) i think it's reasonable to be skeptical as to which team will show up for Nebraska. 3 losses followed by a long winning streak, followed by 2 consecutive losses ... now on an impressive 4 game run. looking at the season as a whole, Pitt ought to be favored. but i feel Nebraska has better odds against Pitt than Texas, so. I look forward to seeing what Cook & Co is able to come up with this time, scheming wise.

Here is how I interpret the NE vs Pitt poll in this thread. 1) More NE fans voting in this thread than Pitt fans and after the TX game NE fans are optimistic. NE fans outnumbering opponent fans would be true vs any WVB team. 2) Pitt is getting votes from their fans as well as non-associated fans and anti-NE fans, or it would be more one-sided toward NE.
These thread polls don't decide the match and are for thread follower entertainment only, as are these pre-game threads. Having fun myself while I can, this will all be over in few days.

As a Nebraska fan I am thrilled that I am still reading this stuff for the Huskers as opposed to reading a Nebraska 2022 thread already! Here's to hoping it is a great match with lots of excitement!

What do we think fan turnout will be? Nebraska has the furthest drive - but we will still drive lol. Didn’t realize how close Pitt was! They should have a decent amount of fans hopefully. Also lots of hometown love for their 3 Ohio born players?

Will the time of the match have any effect on the outcome? 10pm eastern time is pretty late, and I guess that would be 9pm Nebraska time. I know they're all youngsters, so maybe it won't. It will have an effect on this old fan when 5am Fri morning rolls around much too quickly, lol.

Also lots of hometown love for their 3 Ohio born players? Great point! A lot of Husker fans including myself didn't see this as a national semi-final year. However lots of fans for lots of teams go to these things yearly. I expect a noticeable group rooting for Nebraska. Nebraska alumni seem to be everywhere. After playing at Purdue, Wisconsin, Penn State and Texas no fan base cheering against them is going to bother them.

I was also curious about if the way our regular season panned out would mean less fans at the final four. But with the football team once again not going to a bowl game and Covid last year I think a decent amount will make the last min trip!

Chiamaka Nwokolo went to hs in Columbus and played Club (Mintonette) with some other big names from teams who got bounced (Londot-OSU to name one) so I'd expect tons of hometown support

Nebraska played at a scheduled 9:30pm game in the Sweet 16 (even later because Texas/Wash went 5 I just don't have exact time) and Elite 8.
