I hardly blame DB - I think she is as solid as it gets for a B1G setter. I think it's all defense. Our team last year could have done way more damage had our backrow been more reliable. It is apparently known by all B1G coaches that playing Illinois means you're not going to get a defensive battle.

Defense and serving will win the big games! Lost that with Kuper not coming back. Barnes has a ways to go

I saw last year's results as the ceiling for this year's team. As of right now, they are probably not going to match. I don't believe they found replacements for Cooney or Kuper and depth is a concern (e.g. can Bruna stay healthy?). Combine that with the ridiculous recruiting of NEB, WISC, MINN and looking at middle of the pack. Regardless, I'll still be at Huff rooting them on.

I really like DB, she seems like a great teammate and she’s a solid player, but I think this team can only go so far with DB setting. she’s just too inconsistent I think. When she’s playing well she’s really good but when she’s off, it’s just not gonna cut it.

I really hope Mosher can play all around whether its her as setter or RS. She is a scrappy player and a low error player. We need some consistency for Illinois and she will help do that. She is a solid player

Hard to recruit OH backup depth. We need to find someone who will challenge Nunge and Bruna for the starting position. Don’t really know who is left out there who provides a challenge to our current pins. Our biggest problem last year was not setting, but rather a bad combination of weak passing and Nunge’s inability to terminate out of system. Watching our only spring match made me feel better about Barnes as libero - in fact I thought she outplayed Kuper. We need more help at DS than at the pins, or if we insist on putting OHs in the back row (who we don’t set) they need to significantly improve in the back row. Mosher will be on the court at all times, probably at opposite. She also has to improve her passing.

I'd like to see us recruit more true DS/Liberos instead of short OHs that are converted to DS.

Looking at the front page roster - man we are thin at the pins. Hopefully Raina stays and takes her covid year!
We need some depth. Hard to think we cant land big recruits with a 2018 final four/ 2021 sweet 16 combined with our top notch coaching staff.

[br Why haven’t We ( the Illini) been able to get any big name, top notch player transfers? Fleming was great but would anyone say she was “big” coming in? I know it’s been discussed that our facilities aren’t great. But final four, sweet 16, should be able to get players .?.?.?.?

Loved the video posted today. Looks like we might be running a 2 middle offense on some rotations ala Wisconsin. Bingham looks good!!

Holzman was a pretty big name, but unfortunetly she couldnt play due to injury. I think she could have been a special player for Illinois

It seems to be a question of getting traction with the Chicago area clubs, which just hasn’t seemed to have happened. Those top players are ending up in Minneapolis and Madison for whatever reason. Tamas has done well with transfers early on, but just hasn’t gotten a local pipeline established.

I guess I don't share that same concern since we're at least a year or two out from needing a setter commit who'll eventually succeed Mosher. Brooke has four years of eligibility remaining and is expected to start there from 2023-25 so maybe a '25 setter commit we hear about next summer? I wouldn't think they'd want to allocate two scholarships to setters in a given year so it would make sense to have a walk-on backup or two in the interim.
