Two players from Texas sitting behind the players there is nothing to ignore, especially with a former top 10 player as a setter to come in. Also a second team Big 10 player and a second team ACC player. While not playing much at Hawaii, adding height with youth national team experience on the RS is also good. Getting all of that in a single haul is good. Being that highly touted and still beat out by both Gabriel and SKT would not give me a ton of confidence.

I think the Same concept applies when the PSA’s are looking at school. Brand name doesn’t alway mean a good fit. I’m not dogging the players they got but it just seemed like NCSU said “Oh you are on Texas’ roster…. you get a spot “. I put very little stock on the high school rank when you have not played in 2 years. But they will get their shot and show us all what they got.

So who is in the portal now that would help? I think Weatherington would be a great get on the right. Arica Davis from OSU is a Raleigh native, too. What setters are still in there?

Lets be honest....Slabe might have won the transfer route so far, but its because they cant recruit HS students....his team doesn't have the reputation or an established groundwork for bringing in good recruits....
While he got some names from big schools, when almost all your starting lineup is transfers, you can have all the talent in the world and it not gel. They havent proved it on the court at their old schools or frankly at the college level. So it could go either way.
Im fine with NCSU being the 2nd best in the state of North Carolina, competitiveness is always good.
Now, there is a value in transfers. Neelon and Nia were a bridge to help us fill roles until we got in this years #7 recruiting class. That we can develop over 4 years. I will take that any day.

If we can actually develop them and not have them transfer out…

Article on our spring enrollee Ava Swain. goheels.com/news/2022/1/13/SwainJoinsCarolinaVolleyball.aspxPractices are about to start. Will be interesting with a small gym. More time for individual development for sure. Also, there is going to be some changes on the staff. Look for Havenaar to step into a full time role as the Director of Operations. Meaning we will be looking for a new grad assistant.

A couple posts from the Transfer threads saying Charley Niego is visiting UNC This is correct....but I think also a few other schools nearby However, she is following our coaches on social media and early word is she "fits" at UNC with the girls. They also have her grad program at a very high level.

Solid 6-rotation OH for us next year. Interested to see what that does for our back row. Does Maybrey get subbed off?Do we just have one DS spot if running a 5-1? Interesting…

Niego is a good get....we were thin on the pins last year....she is solid and can cut down on subs. She will play 6 rotation...makes me wonder what DS gets the bench. Her and Shaff will be a lethal LS attack. This will also allow the freshman to fill big gaps on the RS.
With the roster UNC has shaping up next year, we will be back in the hunt for the ACC potentially.
Oh and we might not be done yet....

I think it's the fact that SKT transferred in last year that put the nail in the coffin for Cabello. Both Gabriel and SKT led their teams very far in the NCAA tourney. Gabriel to the 2020 National Championship and SKT almost took out Stanford with Plummer and company back in 2019. Cabello is good for the playing time she had at Texas, but I think people will get to see what she can really do now that she has the reigns at NC State.

Agreed here, Leoniak should have started all season for Hawai'i, she could play offense and defense, dig balls in the right back and had a nasty float serve. All at 6'4. Her block was there too. Could have used a little work on her foot work but I think Luka and company will have the best out of her once she starts playing. Bukolic was great at OSU as well. Some are saying Williams from Texas will be an All-American on the outside but I have to see that one first. NC State will be a team to reckon with come the fall.

Glad NCSU will finally give UNC some competition from within the state....the game and ACC need the triangle schools to be good. But as we have seen with teams before, you can take the best transfers on the market, but if they dont gel....you dont get any better. So slabe will need to make that a point of emphasis. I do think we will get NCSU twice on the schedule this fall.

Although we probably need a veteran setter to help in a transition year for freshmen setters.
