I can't watch this anymore. Waste of a Friday night. Things I noticed - Carolina came out strong in the first and FSU had a whole bunch of errors. FSU played very well in the second and UNC struggled, mostly in serve receive and executing. Coaches did not make any types of changes eventhough lots of errors were happening and players were obviously struggling. FSU is a great defensive team and can dig those hard balls we hammer at them and also can dig those crazy balls that you think they are going to miss and get them over. There are some rotations where Liv Mo hits LS and RS and we seriously struggle when that happens. Skyy had a couple kills out of RS but again most of their points are from middle attacks - I would like to see the stats on that to confirm. My opinion is that Skyy is the better middle, faster and more dynamic. Setting was wild with Kaya running into the ref stand or hitting from behind her head. Our coaches think every player should hammer the ball, but when we play strong defensive teams this does not work and we would be better off having someone that will not hammer the ball into the block or at least attempt a recycle. No changes were made during the match - at all and although I don’t think we should be playing musical chairs - we could also put in a DS if SR is struggling or switch it up if sets are consistently inside and tight to the net. You could see the players on the bench try to keep the momentum up but there was a decent amount of disinterested faces as well as the usual snarking and barking at eachother on the court. I feel like most of these players are ready for the season to be done

Shows that they ran the same starters and likely didn’t make any player adjustments in game - nothing new. Win a set, other team adjusts and we eventually lose

The starters are good athletes and good Vball players but maybe not against this team - guess we will never find out cause we just keep on doing the same thing.

I think we will lose 2-3 to the transfer portal. Joe needs to go. Carolina has looked like a train wreck for a few seasons now.

Food for thought regarding player development. Let’s take a couple players that play consistently.
Mabrey’s hitting percentage has gone from .221 in 2021 to .209 Her digs per set from 2.29 in 2021 - 2.8 Receive Errors from .18 per set in 2021 to .20 in 2022 Blocks .29 per set in 2021 to .36
Kaya has gone from hitting percentage has .350 in 2021 to .240 Blocks .95 per set in 2021 to 1.03
Charlie Went from hitting .191 in 2021 to .178 in 2022 Dig went from 2.89 to 2.4 per set Blocking went from .38 to .5 per set
Kareena 4.07 digs per set And 7 receive errors in 2021 Maddi May 3.26 digs per set and 33 receive errors in 2022
So what does that tell us - is there some improvement in the players ability? Is this due to setting, game management etc? Will the Mabreys, Anita’s or Liv’s who play as freshmen get a chance to continue to play? Do they get injured and never see the court again - become obsolete like our current senior class when the next class comes in. Are players expected to make a splash when they come to college and then keep that trajectory going upward for 4 years? Can the coaches keep that trajectory going upward or do they stall and insert “Player B” here?

Based on what stats you posted I think it’s obvious where the problem is this season. Don’t you agree?! 33 service receive errors?! And many more bad SR sequences. You didn’t post anything about the setter though so that would be interesting to look at. How do Meghan and Anita compare?! What we need is a program that develops and has a plan with the talent we have. A program that will not tolerate parents and players demanding playing time and will hold players accountable with no tolerance for disrespect towards coaches and between players. That’s the foundation you can build on. Right now we have weak coaches with no energy or authority. That’s why you have no motivation in the team and bad attitude. Joe is a good guy but the time has run him over. Volleyball has changed. Doing things he did 10 years ago doesn’t work any more. What is clear is that our coaches don’t do any in game adjustments. They have a hard time figuring out who will play early in the season and that causes issues throughout the season. We know that the coaches repeatedly brought talented girls and didn’t develop them. So to me it’s very simple: change coaches to someone who is motivated and has energy to develop talented players, stick with them, but add talent if it betters the team. Just look at what Nebraska and alike are doing and copy that. But if anyone knows John Cook, you can’t say he tolerates disrespect or drama or insubordination. No one questions his moves when he inserts talented freshmen to an already developed team because he sees it will make them better. That’s coaching in a nutshell. Same for Minnesota. Hugh has been doing this with all his teams though including the National team. Quality guy who wants good character first. We certainly don’t do that so a cut is needed in that practice. Food for thought regarding player development. Let’s take a couple players that play consistently. Bubba is only going to do something if someone important talks to him or he’s hammered by a ton of emails. I’ve emailed him a couple of times and mentioned the transfers, etc. and he responded (which I appreciated)… but he said he was “encouraged by our win against Virginia Tech” at the time. Clearly a win against VT in his mind is big enough to think things are going well.

All other sports are just merely for fun to him and he doesnt have time to deal with them so he lets the coaches have free reign with little to no management. This season has been a train wreck. I can deal with slow starts in Aug/Sept, but we should have been playing much better come Oct/Nov. No player development and poor in -game management. It IS time for a change.

Bubba also copied the “volleyball admin” on his response back to me. So he has a senior admin staffer that oversees volleyball (and I’m sure other sports) for him. He told me I could reach out to them, too. I cannot remember their name though. Bubba is only going to do something if someone important talks to him or he’s hammered by a ton of emails. Already starting to see some coaching changes across the country by programs that WANT their women's volleyball team to do better. I assume we will see what happens next week after our season is over.

UNC will host Duke tomorrow afternoon and then UVA Saturday afternoon to conclude the season.
We then wait and see who enters the transfer portal and if any changes are going to be made at all to the staff.
I would safely plan on at least 1, maybe 2 of our freshmen to enter the portal.

If for nothing else, Joe should lose his job for allowing Susan to abuse some of the girls for years. Other programs have dealt with those things way sooner. I wonder how much Bubba knows about that.

Pretty sure he knows. Players have went to him on several occasions to tell him how Susan was verbally abusive, after Joe dismissed them as being "sensitive". Not sure if he knows she put her hands on a player since Joe said he was going to deal with it himself. He did, but a little too late. I want a coaching change but truly hope when it happens, we dont lose our entire roster. We need someone who can get current players to buy in and stay.

I hope we can finish the season with two wins. With nothing left to play for, it’s hard to tell what we are going to get. Lately even with something to play for we sometimes falter at the end of the season - thinking about Harrison’s RS FR year when we were really on the bubble and then lost to VT and UVA (I believe) to close out the final weekend of the season.
