did anyone notice Sunderland and how hard it was for him to pick Texas. Wonder why he has a dislike for us. The obvious answer is that he’s picked Texas before and felt burned by it. Not to mention he was all but rooting for Stanford during the San Diego match, and even afterwards is still dumbfounded they lost. It’s forced a reappraisal by him regarding how good San Diego really is. He did end up saying “Texas SHOULD win.” Not exactly a convicted prognostication, but one in favor of Texas nonetheless. The truth is Texas won’t be given a single point or have any taken away depending on how many people pick Texas or San Diego. It’s all for entertainment. And I like listening to Sunderland. He entertains me for sure. His back and forths with Jennifer Hoffman on The Fifth Set were some of my biggest highlights of the tournament. I’m glad he mentioned “Jenny and I were having fun with it.”

So if we could throw someone in the back of a van and transfer portal them, who would we want? Inspired by Hambly saying he wouldn’t trade Miner or Oglevie for anyone.
I certainly wouldn’t trade Fleck for anyone, but I’ve never been good at judging setter play since it’s the only position I never played. Who would we kidnap if we could? (No disrespect to SKT)
Edit: Paul also said we had a big upgrade at setter this year. Would we say SKT is a better *setter* than Jhenna, or is her main advantage that she’s taller? Although I have noticed her getting our hitters 1-on-1s when the passes are good. Edit edit: also what setter would we grab if we could get a time machine?

Here is how It will be called by haters. "They should have won it with all that talent" or "With all that talent they still lost due to per coaching." Between a rock and a hard place or Damn if you do damn if you don't. Have I missed any of the cliches.

It's especially touchy given Gabriel's comments on temporarily retiring from volleyball that she needed to take care of her mental health and citing comments on volleytalk as a part of it. How about we table this until after the season is over? If we win it all, I'm going to go ahead and say there's no one I'd rather have. Even if we don't win it all, this season has been a blast for me to follow, and frankly a lot of it has less to do with the players and how amazing the team is, and more with the Texas community here and how much I appreciate everyone's contribution. I'll also point out that there is no doubt whatsoever that Blossom outplayed Miner in that regional final. She was the difference in the Toreros losing or moving on, so whatever Hambly thinks he's wrong.

I will never post anything resembling hate about any of these players—including other schools’ players. But I don’t feel like the question is hating—for instance, if I say that Skinner isn’t as good as Eggleston, I don’t think that’s cruel or insulting. I hope Skinner becomes even better than Logan, and I’ll bet Logan would feel the same. I’m more curious about who we think is the best setter in the country and who would mesh with the team well, especially given the “all star team” accusations. I will also say that Jhenna was on a Q&A on Asjia’s YouTube and she said “don’t ever read volleytalk” as advice and I was like “oh no bb, you went on volleytalk? Ohhh, you can’t do that”

So if we could throw someone in the back of a van and transfer portal them, who would we want? Inspired by Hambly saying he wouldn’t trade Miner or Oglevie for anyone. Well, after they played a post-season match in Gregory in an opposing jersey, we ended up getting Fleck, Akana, and Caffey to sign up to play for Texas. So, that "logically" tells me that Achante, Podraza, Landfair, Wenaas, or a Georgia Bulldog will end up transferring to Texas!

Although I have noticed her getting our hitters 1-on-1s when the passes are good. This may be a controversial opinion but I think SKT is better overall than Jhenna. No hate to Jhenna. I think she’s a great player. I just prefer SKT. I’d say Jhenna had a slight edge on floor defense. SKT obviously has the edge in blocking. Jhenna felt faster but I don’t remember her setting as many 1 on 1s as SKT does which in my opinion makes a smarter/better setter. Plus 5’6 vs 6’ is a BIG difference at the net. Just look at Texas vs Kentucky 2020 Championship. As far as who I’d want to kidnap… I mean transfer to Texas I’d have to go with Lazaro or Podraza. I would throw Blossom into the mix but I’d rather have 6’ or 6’2 at the net vs 5’8. Maybe another 6 rotation pin like Nuneviller or Landfair since Skinner and Akana can be inconsistent at times. (No hate to them I love our team) Just my opinion/observations.

I will also say that Jhenna was on a Q&A on Asjia’s YouTube and she said “don’t ever read volleytalk” as advice and I was like “oh no bb, you went on volleytalk? Ohhh, you can’t do that” Heck, I say it. Players, parents of players, coaches. There was a recent volleyballmag interview with the Maryland coach and he mentioned he doesn't go on volleytalk any more after taking the head coaching job for the Terrapins. I've had all kinds of exchanges with people intimately associated with the college sports teams at Texas over the last 30 years. Some of my most cringe worthy were people posting with John Mackovic's son in the mid 90s. He was an undergrad at UT at the time, defending the job his Dad was doing as the head football coach. It was awful to witness. But I've seen plenty of others over the years. Just don't do it. I've flat out accused family members of recruits that the player involved was taking hand outs back in the 2000s, and although it turned out I was right, I was certainly castigated by the members of the site for potentially chasing the recruit away by accosting their family member. It's just not a good idea to participate in message boards as a friend/family member. You'll be welcomed with open arms by people thirsty for a type of association with the sports team, but if things don't go well for whatever reason, it's going to get ugly. For a variety of reasons, it's just different with Gabriel. I don't think it's controversial at all to say Brionne Butler was a better MB than O'Neal, or O'Neal is a better MB than Bergmark or Caffey. Skinner versus Eggleston likewise isn't going to produce much drama. But if we'd seen more of Parra on the left pin and Skinner on the right, or Kahahawai had been switched back and forth with Phillips, either of those could have produced more drama than occurred, since the lineup was solidified very early. The thing that makes Blossom so special is that she runs an extremely fast offense, she's terrific in spreading the ball around, she's incredibly accurate in or out of system (although more effective in system, of course) and she's very deceptive. The problem is that she's 5'9 in the front row, but she does do a good job of getting a block up and getting touches. We'll see how she fares against Eggleston or Skinner. Probably Skinner. My bet is that the left pin across from her has a big day. If I was building a team around a setter that's out there, my pick would be Marquette's Anchante, in part because she has 3 years of eligibility left. That said, I'm grateful to have SKT. When she's in system, she is very good running an offense that's harder than it looks. People think you can just throw the ball up there and the Texas players terminate, but Texas runs a fast offense themselves, and getting everyone involved can be tough when you have two pins with the talent Eggleston and Skinner have. I've especially appreciated SKT's connection with both the middles and Phillips growing as the season has gone on. I wish we set more balls in the backrow, but my goodness. You can't have everything. Maybe we'll see more of it against San Diego.

On another note: Texas needs more seats, somehow someway. I don’t know if Gregory can be retro fitted or there’s a way to play Moody - I’m sure someone here knows.
I get how historical Gregory is and I consider myself so freaking lucky to be able to go to that gym - but we’re at capacity more frequently and there’s simply no way to keep increasing crowds - and it sure looks like there’s been a need for it. Is volleyball the most successful sport at Texas, ever? (Insert Rodney Dangerfield meme).
