I wonder if Hoffman could move over to Sam's old position and Crenshaw move to Hoffman's? Then Endlsey and Bush could rotate like last year. Also, Wilmes could move into Crenshaws old position. You don't take your most skilled scorer off the L1 position. WHile I think Hoffman would be very good on the RS, she's NEEDED on the LS as that is where most of the sets will go. I could see this, however: L1: Bush / DS (Crenshaw?) L2: Hoffman MB1: Grote MB2: Summers S: Powell OPP: Endsley / DS (Wilmes?) L: Bays I'm hoping that Bush can step up to "hammer" status. Hoffman is more of a Swiss Army Knife.

My wife and I headed to Alki Beach yesterday as UW hosted Portland, Oregon, and Hawaii over the weekend for some great beach volleyball. The setting was spectacular with a panoramic view of Puget Sound and the Olympics. Warm sun and mid-50s temps made it fun to watch. We watched the playoff round between Oregon and UW, with the winner getting Hawaii in the final. On Saturday, the Dawgs beat Hawaii for the first time ever (and a top 10 team for the first time since 2017). Oregon actually swept UW on Saturday (5-0) but the Huskies turned the tables yesterday, gutting out a close 3-2 win that featured three three-setters. In the championship final, Hawaii avenged their 4-1 defeat on Saturday with a 4-1 victory. UW has a new beach coach this year, Derek Olsen. It surely was time to relieve Keegan Cook of these duties.
Most of UW's beach players are beach-only, but we did get to see a few indoor players who will be playing this fall, including Wilmes and Mikkelsen (who comprise a strong #3 team) and Maeve Griffin, who I think was playing on UW's #6 team (which does not count in match play). I've got to think that playing beach will only help these folks when it comes to becoming better indoor players.
A highlight was watching the Oregon and Washington #1 teams. Natalie Robinson, who we did not see much of playing indoors, is a savvy beach player, and her partner, Chloe Loreen, is a really strong player at the net. They beat Oregon's combo of Brooke Nuneviller (remember her?) and Hope. Nuneviller, as expected, is a hell of an all-around beach player and she made some really crazy, deft shots. But she also hurt Oregon a bit with some overly aggressive play. It was a super-competitive match, with UW rallying from a 27-29 first set defeat.
Also seen on the beach (as spectators) were Shannon Crenshaw and Ella May Powell, along with Justice McGraw, who was pleasant to talk with.

Kinda annoying that Washington and Oregon teams dont announce these games. Yeah. I found out about this 4pm match at 5:08 pm. (Not that I would have gone to Whitman to watch it....)

Kinda annoying that Washington and Oregon teams dont announce these games. Yeah. I found out about this 4pm match at 5:08 pm. looks like WSU tweeted the event two days ago but vs. Oregon State, I wonder if UW was a last minute addition. UW 4pm OSU 630pm I only found out about this cause a UW player posted a story and I did some digging

Tied 2-2 but apparently no 5th That's normal for one of these spring matches, right? The teams agree to play 4 sets regardless of the set scores.

The above is my best guess at a starting lineup this fall with both Hoffman and Crenshaw playing six rotations. A DS for Bush, preferably one with a really good serve. And Endsley and/or Wilmes subbing in the front row if needed. I hope we have improved options for DS and serving specialists -- our back row play needs to keep improving.

Based on the wsu uw match last year in Pullman, Bush looks like she’s got a decent serve (though into the net quite a few times)

But if you keep her in for serving, you still live with her back row defense, if only for one rotation. Unless her serve is really, really good, and unless she can keep it in consistently, I doubt it's worth it.

Agreed that's a liability but I could see Cook entertaining it as shown by him having Endsley come in and serve and play defense before for a rotation (I don't know if it was due to injury). It would be good for Bush's long term growth to serve and also play a bit of back row defense.
