I wonder why they didn't try and speak to any current players. Based on the atmosphere described, current players may be afraid to speak. Oh, for sure. But they detailed who they tried to talk to (and who declined to speak to them) in the post script and none of the people were current players. I find that odd.

Hey VT people: If you have a Facebook/Instagram, etc. account, please post the IDS article and ask for change at IU. You have volleyball friends who are paying attention. Help move this along so this change can happen sooner, rather than later.Happy to do so and will encourage my 10 followers to do the same! š¤£

I wonder why they didn't try and speak to any current players. If players no longer at Indiana donāt feel safe enough to talk for fear of retribution, what do you think players still under his thumb might feel? Itās common for people in abusive situations to stay silent, especially if they donāt get a sense that the powers-that-be will do anything about a situation.

Iām beginning to think Maryland may have let Aird go willingly - if not explicitly, then implicitly by not trying that hard to keep him. That whole escapade would make a lot more sense of so. I do know of instances in other sports where ADs have declined to use full intent to keep a coach when there's an element of this guy may be winning, but he's a dick and not a good representative of our institution.

Oddly enough, his two new assistants are absolute class acts. Let's see what happens. What did I just read?! Good: Tremendous student reporting! The Bad and Very Ugly: Aird! He needs to be walked out today. IU should take the financial hit now, pay the buyout, and start anew. If the routine verbal, physical and mental abuse werenāt enough, asking to see your athleteās tattoo when you know itās on her butt cheek should be grounds for some sort of disciplinary action. Heās a Teflon Don at Indiana. As for the new assistantsā¦ They got the sales pitch. Aird hired people behind whose integrity and reputation he can be shielded. They believe they can make changes, if what theyāve heard is true. Positioning themselves for HC opportunity after Aird is terminated? Cāmon, IU. Do better for your student-athletes! Yeah, that's true. The tattoo incident alone would be grounds for discipline.

I wonder why they didn't try and speak to any current players. I guess it depends on what you mean by "current". The player behind the 'sweet potato' story and tiktok was on the 2021 roster (though her playing time disappeared entirely) and as best I know has not entered the transfer portal etc. Unsurprisingly, she is not listed on the 2022 spring schedule. A 2021 roster player is pretty current, if you ask me.

It gains much more credibility when coupled with the bigger picture.

And a quick note to IU Athletic Director Scott Dolson might help things move, too:

I think it's also possible that the reporter didn't want current players to be subjected to some kind of inquisition by Aird on who the press might be talking to. I don't automatically make the inference that because the article didn't mention attempts to talk to current players that the reporter didn't reach out to them.

I wonder why they didn't try and speak to any current players. Did you read the first paragraph? The retaliation and punishment current players would receive would be horrendous. People are scared of him and he will make your life a living hell if you're still at practice. Many of them wanted to talk but felt they would be safer waiting until they left to share their story.

I wonder why they didn't try and speak to any current players. Gotta go through SIDs to reach current athletes, which would entail telling the SID about the story youāre doing. Edit: And, as everyone else has said, obviously too much risk for players still there.

Yes. As I said above, the piece details who they tried to talk to, even if those people wouldn't speak with the newspaper. Unless I misread it, they didn't try to talk with the current roster. Perhaps there's some standing policy between the student newspaper and the athletic department about interviews with current athletes or something. I just found it odd.
