Is anyone going to say anything about the investigation by the school that cleared Aired? Those things now a days are very detailed investigations and not taken lightly. Not all this adds up. This school has a financial incentive to keep him employed. Can’t the buyout be waived with enough cause?

I was thinking of opening a pitchfork & torch concession in Bloomington, but I don’t think there are enough angry villagers there to make it profitable….

I wonder why they didn't try and speak to any current players. Wait, it doesn't say they _didn't_ try to reach out to current players. The Indiana Daily Student spent nearly five months reporting this story after receiving several news tips about problems within the volleyball program. As part of the reporting process, we talked to six former athletes who played under Aird. Four of them, all from Indiana, requested to remain anonymous in the story. They were granted anonymity because they were either still connected to Indiana University and feared retribution through the school or because they were worried about Aird’s connections within the volleyball community.
The IDS also reached out to an additional nine former players for interviews. Four turned down the requests because of a desire to move past their experiences in the program or a fear of Aird. Five others did not respond.
The IDS also requested documents and emails related to Aird and the IU investigation, including Aird’s disciplinary record and emails between General Counsel James Nussbaum and Aird, Mattie White and Scott Dolson. The university said it does not maintain a disciplinary record for Aird, while the emails were protected by attorney-client privilege.

I believe the investigation came back that university counsel didn't believe they could fire him for cause. It didn't necessarily clear him of being a bad coach or a bad person.

In a case like this the DEI investigators would coordinate this investigation. If you haven’t been a part of this before then I guess you wouldn’t know how aggressive they are in this process. The athletic department investment would not impact anything they would do. I’m actually not an Aired fan, but I absolutely hate how people jump to conclusions with somewhat suspect information and become a mob so easily now a days.

"Cleared" isn't how I would describe what they likely found. More like, "We probably can't fire him without paying his buyout."

What they did by conducting a limited investigation, which appears to have not interviewed numerous salient witnesses and having deleted practice tapes etc. is leave the university open to a great big law suit! I remember Illinois WBB getting sued by ex-players who were run off by a new head coach & staff Circa 2015. The University settled for like $250,000 before the case went to trail to keep the details of really terrible race based conduct to run off a group of player from being aired. I would encourage all players affected to contact a class action attorney and get some satisfaction!

They should give him the Lane Kiffin treatment and fire him on a tarmac. This story is reminding me again of the horrifying treatment Mick Haley received from USC. Fired while at a convention after taking his team within one unfortunate break from making the FF and after an incredible record of winning success. And then there's Aird.
