Randy "Big Train" Johnson I think you have mixed up two Hall Of Fame pitchers: Walter "Big Train" Johnson and Randy "Big Unit" Johnson. Ah, you are very correct! We sat next to his ex-wife many times (Randy, not Walter) - she was a very nice lady!

We sat next to his ex-wife many times (Randy, not Walter) - she was a very nice lady! It would be pretty difficult to sit next to Walter Johnson or anyone he was married to at this point. He's been dead for 75 years. Also, I didn't even realize that Randy Johnson had another daughter who played volleyball. I knew of the one who was playing at Oregon but not the one at Indiana.

They seem to find it impossible to lure the next Kelly Sheffield to IU. Here she is: Ball State Coach Kelli Miller-Phillips. Why not give her a shot - it can't turn out any worse than the Steve Aird experiment has. She would be a great replacement. But the position's not open...and I don't know if she would want to work there at this point.

Does Indiana really want to let Aird finish out the next three seasons of his contract? They probably missed their first chance after last season, but I think the situation is untenable if they want to improve. As for Miller-Phillips, it seems like she's got a good thing going at Ball State. She may want to wait for a better job than Indiana to make her next move.

Let me toss in another thought. For some, they had old-school coaches at club or high school – so they’re “kind of” used to the environment. Remember, this whole SA thingee is exposing the difference between old school coaches and new school coaches. I would imagine, there’s a lot of coaching adaptation going on right now because of this topic. At least I would hope so Certainly the Munciana kids who went to IU were used to being screamed at and belittled

Certainly the Munciana kids who went to IU were used to being screamed at and belittled So your team lost to a Muncie team this weekend? Bad take. Well an enormous difference is those Muncie kids overwhelmingly love playing for their coach.

Was that your experience?

Played her freshman year and then left - no one really knows why. Made a nice little impact, and looked like she could have really turned into something special.

I'm a little hesitant to put names to any of this, even though it is all found in open-to-the-public tiktok accounts, but when the IU newspaper story came out, Sophie (the sweet potato girl) posted a response to it on her tiktok. And there was/is a comment to that tiktok from a "Lexidakotah" account that reads "FINALLY... worst season of volleyball of my life". Dakotah is Lexi Johnson's middle name.

Yeah, this sentence in that article is a bit odd: "Aird made it clear there was no tension between himself and the players and expressed his wishes of future success for both." Like, it's not all that uncommon for a player to decide to stop playing a sport while in college without transferring somewhere else. But usually, I don't see articles in which the coach feels the need to say that there was no tension between themselves and the player. Most people generally wouldn't think there was without additional context. But if you're going out of your way to unsolicitedly say there is no tension, that makes me think there might be tension.
