Not defending anyone just being rational. No one is looking at it from the other side just bash bash bash. I think the article just took the extreme side of the story.
Unfortunately it took over 3 weeks to get my account approved.
Really what’s the point of bashing the %*$# out of the guy on here it’s not like it’s gonna change anything.

You didn't answer the question. "Unfortunately it took over 3 weeks to get my account approved." - Meaning you created it for express purpose of coming here to post about Aird, yes? You try to diminish the allegations described in the article as being "anonymous", but you won't say who you are? Do you work for IU? Parent of an athlete? Know Aird in some capacity? Tell us, please.

We have a new generation of athletes in a different world with much more sensitivities who realize they don’t need to be treated like crap because they’re not hostages. Fixed it for you. You get close to making one reasonable point though, in the part about “his” recruits. If a coach is completely transparent and honest with potential recruits about how his or her program is run AND the player still decides to sign up for that, the coach has some ground to stand on if players aren’t happy with it. However, the Aird situation seems like it either 1) isn’t honest and transparent, or 2) he’s doing so unreasonably.

Forgive me. I did not know that introductions were required for an anonymous chat board.
I am a volleyball fan and in particular a B1G fan. I have no affiliation and am not diminishing any allegations. They are all very serious. I am simply looking at it from the other side.
I came across the article on social media and like many it peaked an interest. Found this chat board during a random volleyball google search. Read and followed many threads but never felt the need to subscribe or post until I started reading here. So I joined and yes my first and only comments have been on this thread.

Today - "I ... am not diminishing any allegations." Last week - "It sounds pretty isolated. Remove the problem players and the problem self corrects. Not saying they all had the “issues” but as others have said a lot of anonymous players have come forward." Yeah, you are. (And once more, not all those who have come forward have done so anonymously.)

No girls left the program this year other than 3 graduating seniors and a girl who never saw the floor. It sounds pretty isolated. Remove the problem players and the problem self corrects. Not saying they all had the “issues” but as others have said a lot of anonymous players have come forward. Every coach is tough. This is the B1G. High expectations for both players and coaches. BTW, they are women. They play Women's Volleyball.

Anyone who attends at least a few IU matches per year has seen the obvious decline. Things were horrible at the end under Kruzan, and the same pattern is emerging with Aird. Allegations of misconduct aside, the program, with all new facilities and high expectations, has gone from 16-15 overall and 7-13 in the conference in Aird's first year (a pretty good achievement considering he had Kruzan's players who had gone 12-20 and 1-19 the year before) to 10-22 overall and 4-16 in the conference last year. Fitzner may have stayed, but barely played last year - the same with Zulauf. Clearly one of the worst, if not the worst, passing teams in the Conference. Pretty clear there has been no turnaround, and the direction the program has been heading has been steadily downward during his tenure. And worries about him suing if they gave him the buyout are silly, because they would clearly only pay the buyout if he entered into a Release and agreement not to sue. Get it over with, buy him out, and lure Miller-Phillips away from Ball State already.

I have no doubt that he’s a tough coach as expected but over the years since the portal became an option players have come and gone from all programs not just at IU. I am sure if you surveyed all the players there would be similar stories across a number of programs. Look at the Cal swim and dive coach who was recently exposed for bullying and verbal abuse. We have a new generation of athletes in a different world with much more sensitivities. Coaches, players and parents need to adapt. I believe 2019 was Aird’s first recruit class at IU. All three of the girls he recruited (Armstrong, Fitzner and Zulauf) are still with the program. The COVID year 2020 is a tough one - limited play, restrictions, limitations and isolation. Eight girls came in and half left. Of the four that left only two (Stockham and Blackwell) are still playing. Both returned to their native west coast. Did they leave because they wanted to play on better teams? Was the Midwest winter too tough for the fair weather ladies? Were they home sick? Was it the coaching? Neither of them came forward in the article as far as we know. Four new faces in 2021 who are all still in the program today. Lost two coaches but did they leave on their own or were they asked to leave due to the lack of success? They both moved on to better teams as well. Either way it looks like a good career move. On the other hand, two new, well respected coaches joined the program. Successors? New blood to turn the program around? Unfortunately for 2022 the article hurt the recruiting class. So 4 of the 15 recruits under Aird have left in the past 3 years. Two of whom saw little or no playing time and no longer play. You can spin this either way and can and likely will be debated. are we going to forget that Lexi Johnson and Abigail Westenhofer were his recruits…. That left… Also 2019 recruit potato left so not all of them are “still in the program”. Plus OTHERS. Kinda crazy how far off you were

Isn’t it interesting, that the public opinion is swinging the other way. More and more support for Steve Aird. Perhaps it was having a “bad Apple” recruit. (Get rid of them— or better yet don’t recruit them). I’m sure other coaches are adapting and are reviewing and evaluating players a little differently. Wonder how you evaluate a recruit to make sure that you don’t have a “sweet potato girl”. Do you talk to their teammates? Club coaches, in this environment, probably are overly cautious about player evaluations. Just wondering…

Kinda crazy how far off you were No opinion on this, but jaylene has a point in that youth today are easily offended vs older generations. I'm 69, while growing up we were encouraged to develop a thick skin toward verbal stuff. "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." The younger generation loses it over verbal micro-aggressions, what ever those are, seem subjective to the offended to me. Everyone has bad days. Everyone gets angry sometimes. Some people are just not nice ever. It's part of any society, part of human nature. From my perspective, a thicker skin helps negotiate life at times, not a bad thing. Is Aird a good, bad or terrible coach? I have no idea. Hopefully for him and his players he adopts and succeeds, but many don't.
