I wouldn't think academics is an issue. IIRC She has one Masters degree. I have heard varying reports whether she has started on a second masters or a doctorate. In a worst case scenario, she could just start on another bachelors degree. I actually don't think you can get another bachelor's if you get an extra year, I think it has to be post-graduate work. I wondered about that (and whether what I had done during my non-athletic experience at Wisconsin would have qualified). I guess it depends on how you define "post-graduate", but if you mean masters or PhD, then no. For a student-athlete to be "eligible for institutional financial aid", and in turn also be eligible to participate in athletics (with eligibility otherwise remaining, etc) - they have to be "graduate student eligible". But that term includes grad school or 'professional' school, or "seeking a second baccalaureate or equivalent degree at the same institution" or "has graduated and is continuing as a full-time student at the same institution while taking course work that would lead to the equivalent of another major or degree". (NCAA Bylaws 15.01 and 14.6) So if one were simply working towards an 'additional major' within the same school as their bachelors, that would enough to maintain eligibility. It doesn't have to be a masters, or PhD or even an additional bachelors. it can simply be a second major. (The last thing I did at Wisconsin to finish up my bachelors in math was to take a computer programming class - I'm very old; this was literally before the PC and been invented. And I greatly enjoyed it. So I went to the school's advisors and said I wanted to take more computer classes; was I talking about a second bachelors? They no, it could simply be a second major. As if I had done a double-major, only instead of doing them simultaneously, I did them sequentially.)

That's interesting, didn't know that! Thanks for the lesson! After I posted it and read through it all again, the phrase "at the same institution" jumped out. Maybe Caffey's undergraduate degree being from Missouri and masters from Nebraska is somehow a 'complication' that John Cook is talking about? An additional major tacked on to the bachelors wouldn't be "at the same institution", and there's maybe no such equivalent tacking additional stuff to a masters? That would be kind of a BS technicality, but a complication nonetheless...

Not understanding the point that you are trying to make. Please explain. Referencing the 6th year criteria, where she received her degree(s) is immaterial. In fact, I'm positive she could receive one even if she hadn't completed a bachelor's degree. Perhaps it is involved with the problem being approved by the school, but not with the NCAA. I thought you were saying that a graduate transfer had to take graduate level courses to be eligible to play. In order to be immediately eligible, a graduate transfer must be enrolled in a graduate program that is not offered at the previous school.

When do players start leaving because scholarships/playing time has been pulled/reduced? Can’t keep everyone HAPPY!! The more important question is when does Cook’s program see a fall off in performance? I’m going to go out on a limb and say never. Players want to be associated with Nebraska, whether high school recruits who see it as their dream destination to high impact transfers who choose the Cornhuskers over every other program in the country. It’s not a sign of parity that everyone can’t be kept happy. It’s another signal of continued Nebraska dominance. Better to keep a culture of meritocracy than anything else.

It's always good to see these two interact. Lindsay must have 87 hours in her day. She has four boys, a marriage, and the million things she does for Husker Volleyball, and on top of that if you need something, she's on top of it for you usually within a couple of hours.
