“I told coach Sheffield that I’m not afraid of the challenge,” Crawford said. “I love to grind. So I’m excited to get in the gym with all those girls. Someone said that iron sharpens iron, so I think the people I’ll be surrounded with will push me, and I’m excited for that.”You love to hear it. Source?

Itz common sense, but I thought ‘Wow! They’re on VT, reading our stuff.’ So glad we got her to Madison. “It’s an interesting move by Sheff. I think he’s thinking beyond 2022. She’s a very talented 3 year eligible middle, that is going to be ready to compete on day 1, and at minimum, bring some great competition to the gym. Iron sharpens iron.”

Kind of inevitable. Most of them had it and probably had all shots, so hopefully it's ok.

One thing I noticed when watching the welcome home party on streaming was half the comments were something like "take off your masks.". Maybe they were trying to protect people not in the travel party?? I doubt the AD traveled with them, for one. I didn’t think much of it from inside the Field House. There wasn’t a game, and there is still a mask mandate in Dane County. FB alive stream commenters are the absolute worst when it comes to COVID, masks, etc.

I mean, just type in "way to go" and move on.
I swear, storming the beaches of Normandy would not happen in 2021, unless the people in boats were charging the people wearing masks.
Sorry , I went a little OTN there.

It's a conundrum. Smrek came into her own on the right. But I thought Robinson was better on the right than in the middle. As much as I love Smrek blocking on the RS, I think she played better (and looked more comfortable) in the middle. Robinson is an AA at RS. I think that makes the most sense. I said the same thing immediately after Hart went down but was shut down pretty thoroughly back then.

I said the same thing immediately after Hart went down but was shut down pretty thoroughly back then. There are so many variables. That’s why they practice the spring and in the preseason in the fall. They have at least four middle blocking options and probably more than that for the right side. All these hitters are going to have to deal with a new Setter as well. That might elevate some more so than others. Who knows. And I have to think that Demps will play all the way around next year. I’m not sure where but she was just so good. For the first time in a couple of years, our lineup is really up in the air. Lots of competition so that bodes well for next year. It’s a great time to be a Badger fan that’s for sure.

Adding Crawford gives them a lot more options and makes things more comfortable in the front row. I love Hart, don't get me wrong, but it is comforting to have other options behind someone coming back from a major injury, maybe not having to have them go back to back matches early on, and the 2023 middle situation is extremely more comforting with Crawford aboard. In the Sheffield era, due to injuries, this fall's team was fortunately the one that could survive a long term front row starter injury and not take a hit that would entirely derail the season. Again, this is not to say losing Hart did not make things more difficult. Look at the total point spreads against good teams before and after her injury, but they eventually found a way to overcome that with players stepping up.

When you think about it, it’s pretty great that they were able to win this national championship without Danielle Hart. She was playing at an All-American level when she got hurt. The fact that the Badgers rebounded from that loss, adapted, and still won a national championship is incredible to me.
