I thought heading into the season that they could lose 2-3 matches in preseason due to growing pains with the new personnel and system. From that point of view, two close five set losses doesn't seem like a bad return. I got frustrated on Friday I think because I really wanted to have them pay off that fan support at the Kohl Center. But to be honest, they are kind of at the point I thought they would be. There are a lot of aspects that can get better. Virtually everything except serving in fact. Also Orzol is the best player on the team right now. And blocking, they are an excellent blocking team. Yeah, before the Florida match I would have put that down to the strong service pressure, but the block was good even when Florida passed well on Friday. |

Probably the best blocking stretch I’ve ever seen. |

Jerry Schumacher. three time All-American track and cross country at Wisconsin, won an NCAA cross country championship as part of the 1988 team, and then won a NCAA cross country championship as UW's head coach in 2005. Currently the head coach at Univ of Oregon. |

And during the baylor match the mid coded and added one. Against Baylor she passed a 2.24 and against marquette and Kentucky a 2.18 It’l be weird trying to figure out her stats all season bc of it lol |

Wisconsin recruited a high school libero ? We have one coming in next year too. There is one on the bench. Dru Kuck was supposed to join, but they decided to pull her scholarship after something went awry on a visit. Only time that's ever happened. |

I almost fell out of my chair when I read the suggestion that Crawford should be the new setter. Reading the key is having Demps play 6 rotations, when neither blocking nor serve receive have been her strengths to date, was interesting as well. Also, I don't think switching to a 5-1 makes sense at this point. The personnel available just makes the 6-2 ceiling higher.
There are still a number of matches before Shanel is available. But looking ahead, I think I'd be interested in seeing Shanel backrow subbing for Franklin after the first round of rotations. They are already subbing a server, and I'd give up a fourth hitter, that isn't used often anyway, to stabilize passing, which simply isn't good enough right now. Maybe being less taxed helps franklin elevate her overall play. I'd also then flip franklin and orzol so that franklin is up front more with smrek. Smrek is such a blocking weapon, she needs to be out there, but they have to play to her strengths when setting her. Thus, smrek and crawford continue to switch more on offense, allowing smrek to hit more out of the middle and avoid setting her out of system if possible, sending those balls to franklin.
Now, time to see what the Packers can do this week.
