How they handled Haley’s firing was surely wrong, but let’s not pretend he was consistently holding up the pride of the PAC. He was in a decline, that much was pretty clear. We all know Keller can recruit, the question now is can he coach. Still very early in that assessment, but a 15-15 record last year isn’t a good starting point, and so far this season it doesn’t look exceptionally promising. Two of the last three years of Mick’s coaching legacy brought USC within a couple points of making the Final Four - 2015 & 2017. Not too shabby. But Donna Heinel. Donna, Donna, Donna… (Whatever happened to her March 11, 2022 scheduled sentencing to pleading guilty?) www.justice.gov/usao-ma/investigations-college-admissions-and-testing-bribery-schemeAccording to this document, Heinel's sentencing hearing is next Tuesday. Jovan Vavic's is the following day.

Maybe Pac12 isn't doing as bad as we thought they were? According do the non-conf W/L ratio, Pac12 is currently 2nd with .750, just behind BigTen (.770) some historical references (ALL non conf W/L ratio) 2021 | 4th | .687 | 2019 | 1st | .790 | 2018 | 2nd | .784 |
Of course, this only tells part of story. It doesn't show the strength of the schedule. As long as the Pac12 keeps up and wins some big matches, I think it might not be a terrible season for the pac.

It's an improvement over 2021, for sure, but the big issue is that 2021 only resulted in 2 seeds for the PAC, both of whom had to play road matches against Top 4 seeds in the Sweet 16. It's not a recipe for success. And there is a material difference between 79% and 77% win percentage, and I fear PAC is at risk of not keeping that up, as we have a lot of potential losses over the next two weeks.

We really should be striving for a .800+ non-conference win/loss percentage and weeks 1 and 2 were a much easier road to keep us there once the dust settled. Actual SOS aside, it's not just about the win/loss rankings of the conference, it's about the gap between us and other conferences. The fact that some of the other power conferences also lost some matches in week 2 isn't something we should be resting on as they can always improve. We want to get as many teams in the RPI top 25 and top 50 as possible - margins matter. Lets also point out that in 2019, (still below the 80% non-conference win mark but #1 overall among the conferences) that the committee still didn't give us what RPI says should have been ours. Did Utah get a seed even though they had a higher RPI than Purdue? no....did Cal get a bid? no. That same year both USC and UCLA sat just outside the top 25...if one of those teams was in the top 25 the Pac-12 nitty gritty skyrockets and Utah is surely a seed, perhaps a high seed. Week 3 has some tougher matches. OSU could drop 2, Oregon/Stanford go play at Minnesota/Penn State, USC could drop both matches to Hawaii, ASU has Colorado State and Baylor, Utah has San Diego, Washington has Pepperdine, and Northwestern (who isn't bad by any means), Colorado plays Arkansas.....That is a lot of potential losses in week 3. Now, if we end up winning most of these, GREAT! but it's a tougher run than week 2.

Not knocking ASU. I'd like nothing better than for Tomasevic to get to the top of the PAC. But why is returning all their starters such a big deal? They finished the conference 7-13. Are they going to all improve dramatically during the off-season? Are there new recruits that are going to make the difference? To be clear- Stanford is my pick to win the title, ASU is my pick for team on the rise. I’m not suggesting ASU will win the pac-12. Teams improve without adding pieces all the time. Just look at Georgia Tech and Louisville. You think Georgia Tech is improved?

Just look at Georgia Tech and Louisville. You think Georgia Tech is improved? I think you are taking this out of context as it was in reference to the 2021 year, not 2022. GT and Louisville in 2021 didn't add any important pieces from their 2020 squads, like how ASU is essentially carrying over the same team from 2021 to 2022.

That makes sense, in both GT's case and in Louisville's. You're right. I missed that completely.

Like, seriously, how can you not look at the LA schools the last half decade and just be disappointed? It’s just so freaking mediocre. I shutter to think what Washington could have done with a May, Fleck, Botkin, Lanier… 🙄
