The problem with that is that the first USC match showed Ham needs to be passing, and it seems Edmonds is ahead of her in the DS rotation. Wagoner is going to be 6 rotations, so that leaves Alexander and the right side as players for whom they will play. Keep working on the passing and pipe attacks in practice, but, with the current lineup, I would be more focused on improving the passing than worrying about more offensive options. Where did you get the impression that Edmonds is ahead of Ham? That’s not what I’ve gathered from the past few games… I think in parts of some sets against USC where Alexander stayed on, so Ham didn’t get to play back row (while Edmonds was still DS’ing for the Opp)

changing things up a little this season ... i created a single match-thread, for both of hawaii's matches this week. that way, all discussions about line-ups, predictions, etc ... can happen all in one place ... hopefully people will help me 'bump' the thread for the friday and saturday matches volleytalk.proboards.com/thread/90972/hawaii-uc-davis-riverside-7pm

Ah ok I took that just as a possibility she would straight sub for Riley if she had another booboo offensive night, it’s hard to really judge between her and Edmonds because they both make great defensive plays, but from what it looks like Edmonds is the easier player to ace, especially on float serves that drop

Ham and Edmonds both help with the floor defense. Serve receive needs to improve across the entire team. Kate also needs to stop setting the ball over on two....that isn't going to fool many more teams. Seeing Dani Mafua this past weekend reminded me of her soft hands and the straight dumps she had.

That DS was Ham. Edmonds instead took her spot as Akana's back row sub. Which was a surprise, since Ham has seemingly been a better passer than Edmonds, who ended up getting aced 4 times in that match. As you know, Ham returned to the lineup the following night, first as a sub for Alexander playing middle back, and switched to her original right back position in Set 3, which is when she had her serving runs. Basically, Ham > Edmonds.

Curious to see if Ham can become a 6 rotation oppo, her hitting didn't look too bad during the alumni match, backrow attack option too

We need an upgrade at that position.

Dani Mafua did not lose the great rhythm and hands she had. But then again, that was a trademark of Dave’s setters. Rhythmic, great footwork and location.

But I will say that on night 2 of the USC series she tightened up on her technique and presented a more quiet platform on serve receive which helped the team a ton. Wags has control but she doesn’t really have range and she looks stiff back there sometimes.

Yea Talia has the major herky jerkies when she passes lol but she’s athletic and has a ton of range, but I think she understands the quietness in passing is what she needs because she admired that aspect of Ikenaga. I find it kind of shocking that Akana hasn’t been able to convince the staff of even her ability to serve and get backrow time. Maybe it’s the tight office professional bun lol gotta change it up lol
