Really happy to see how the outsides played today and most importantly the tough serving. I thought Long Beach played such great defense, blocks and digs. Thought Hawaii would win but not with a sweep! Hope cal poly wins against UCSB tonight and get their revenge!

got to be in the stanley last night ... for the first time since before covid. it was so nice being in familiar surroundings again. hearing the crowd get into things. cheering, clapping ... even muttering, when hawaii has a mis-step ... haha! the crowd made a difference, especially in the first set, or when the beach threatened to go on a service run ... the crowd would get loud, and "force" a service error. granted, it might have been the beach feeling the pressure of needing to serve tough against uh. but i like to think the crowd played its part ... chacon was all over the place. passing nearly half the court, taking big swings in and out of system. uh was targeting her on serve receive, and it seemed to work ...since it "over-worked" her. beach needed more from kennedy. glenn looked like she would make an impact early. but hawaii adjusted to her, and then she started to spray errors (both hitting and from the service line). i was impressed with bacon! she did well blocking against igiede and then avoiding the hawaii block when meyer set her. great to finally see our freshman phenom alexander play in person! she's a treat to watch! great arm, and already showing the ability to hit an array of shots and angles. didn't hit for a great percentage on the night. but when i peaked at the live stats, it looked like she had 3K and 5 errors after set 1. but by the end of the night, she finished with 11K and 6 errors. that's a nice sign of maturity to be able to make the right adjustments against a quality conference opponent. glad to see riley back in form. she had some clutch kills and digs. in fact, nearly every player on the court tonight had a clutch moment. nice to see akana have a great night. big opening set for her. the quality of the sets fed to her seemed to fade over the course of the match though. but it was fitting that she got the swing on match point. a well-earned moment! igiede had some big kills. beach defense was all over her though. still though, she made her presence felt ... she ended up tying second in points for the team on the night, even with the beach limiting her kill production. i loved the one sequence, where she was back left, and dug up a laser kill ... wagoner chases it beyond the end line and bumps it up high for alexander ... who tools it off the block for a tough out-of-system kill. just awesome vintage wahine volleyball! here's that point in the match!

Amber’s dig was the highlight of the match for me. That’s a middle out there playing defense. Coach Shoji, who was in the building, must have been smiling.
