A dropoff in ball control was to be expected ball control will be the life or death of Kentucky this year. Beavin and walker have proved themselves as elite ball control players, but no solid second option for Kentucky at DS and Rollins and lamb are not very good passers yet. Rollins may have to receive all 6 rotations so if she can hold it together they should be fine, but that's a big if

It's too bad Tharp didn't return, you could've DS'd both OH. That said, Tealer is one of my favorite players in the entire country so y'all better figure out ways to get her the ball lolll

Rollins has also been part of some pretty catastrophic passing formations (thinking specifically about Minnesota), which she certainly partly shares the blame for, but she could also benefit from being in the best passing line (Beavin + Walker) she's ever been in (if this is true?).
If she can't pass above a 2.0, I don't see why Whitworth or Berez wouldn't get a serious look (I have to imagine they both can pass better than that?). Edmond and both Skinner sisters are better hitters than Rollins, and had pretty short leashes at times in the back row.

I wouldn't call readily saying this team isn't the same caliber as the 2017-2021 teams before we've seen a single match, or expecting us to nab the #1 recruit at every position "realistic." Seems clear to me you are drinking the hyper critical kool-aid, which from experience, I know tastes pretty good! Kentucky still has the talent on the roster. like I've said before, if you look at setter/middles/libero/opp/ds combined Kentucky has as good of talent as almost any other team in the country. Rollins has shown that she can be a strong player (its been a while but clearly the ability is there) and lamb is a solid player who will hopefully come into her own. lamb doesn't even need to be great, if she and Rollins can just be "good" Kentucky will compete with the top teams This is what I find strange about the pessimism. Especially if we're going to say 2022 UK isn't on the same tier as the 2017-2019 teams. Those teams had some major weaknesses in the middle and on the RS.

I will freely admit to still learning the game of volleyball! I became a fan of UK volleyball because I was a UK season basketball ticket holder, and received a pass to the "Olympic / non-revenue" UK sports... found that I really enjoyed watching men's and women's soccer and women's volleyball. Having Lilley / Curry as a backbone of the team, and Edmonds / Stumler as elite OH's really elevated the team from very good in the early and mid 2010's to an amazing five year run... guess a little bit of my "realism" is fueled by Madi Skinner transferring out, and a sense that our OH's are back to the level of that "very good" era...

Welcome to the sport! Just for a little of perspective, Stumler is a great example of why having the biggest names/number 1 recruits isn't everything. Stumler was the #38 recruit in her class. She's even acknowledged she probably wouldn't have even played front row at many B1G programs! She worked her a$$ off for 4 years to become a National Champion and First Team All-American. Avery Skinner was the #32 recruit. Same story. UK didn't win their first National Championship until after extraordinaire Edmond graduated. UK will be fine without Madi -- would it be great if she stayed? Absolutely! But recruiting is still doing very well, and UK seems to be a program that brings out the best in their players. Hell, I'm probably more optimistic about this team then some of the late 2010 teams because we're less reliant on one player! Stay positive, UK volleyball is going to be fine

vimeo.com/742390878/41cd5ffa0dMedia day press conference with coach Skinner. Pretty good insights from him and maybe the best part is the much needed 80 million dollar renovation coming to Memorial Coliseum next spring. Way beyond due.

Sounds like the other middle spot is still up for grabs. Williams is 80-85% of where she was pre-injury. It was interesting to hear the comment about how last year opponents only needed to watch a half hour of tape on us and this year he hopes it's closer to 3.5 hours. Hopefully that's more than just wishful thinking. Here's the video of Rutherford, Tealer, and Grome if anybody's interested vimeo.com/742390544/07b6987c50?embedded=true&source=vimeo_logo&owner=7030922

sounds like they want a really diverse and almost 'complicated' offensive system. I think this team needs a 2018 Oregon style of offense. everyone running everywhere
