Thoughts after tonight’s loss?
Credit to Marquette they played a really strong game. Cats came out flat the first two sets and couldn’t complete the comeback in the fifth. Good news is Rollins and Lamb looked great and should be formidable this year. Tealer and Rutherford were really bad tonight and that may be the worse I’ve seen Tealer since her freshman year. Defense and block were so so and grome wasn’t her best but played better as the game went on.
Hard to take too much from the first game and I think Kentucky will be fine, but I’m not sure they have the pieces this year to win the SEC and make a deep tourney run.

I think its a good sign that the two everyone was worried about were leading the way. id be more worried if they had bad matches. I don't doubt that tealer, Rutherford, and Grome will come back into form

I am hoping Kentucky wins all remaining regular season matches not against Wisconsin or Florida! I like RPI boosts! Marquette is even, I want every Wisconsin opponent destroyed, I like Florida because I go to Gainesville for beer when visiting the folks, and Wisconsin finally beat them in the Spring 2021 NCAA tournament. How about a split in Gainesville and a co-SEC championship for those two?

Disappointed in the loss, but kudos to Marquette, they brought it tonight and don't want to take anything away from them. It really felt like we just weren't very cohesive, I can see why Skinner kept harping in his last press conference about the NCAA needing to allow practice time in the summer. I think a lot of the issues tonight are gonna be solved by just playing together more. Hopefully the passing gets a little better and Rutherford cuts down on the errors. On the bright side, Rollins went OFF, and Lamb is going to be awesome, she just needs some more experience to develop some savvy, I think. It was cool to see Whitworth get in and perform pretty well for her first ever game. Nothing tonight makes me think we can't or won't compete for the SEC title.
Also shoutout to the dude behind me who asked me every time someone served if they were a transfer.

Take aways from Week 1: - Serve Receive will be a work in progress all season long. Rollins and Rutherford will be targets in SR from other teams all year long so they need to focus on first contact or Whitworth and Berezowitz need to come on. - With that being said, middles need to be utilized more but that comes with the serve receive. Tealer is the best weapon on this team but is simply not getting the number of attacks she needs. If the pass isn't going to be there, they need to work on getting here the ball running something on the rightside or away from the setter at least. - Grome needs to be better, she missed a lot of sets these past two games but it's week 1 and she will get better as the season goes on. - Lamb looks incredible and hope the ankle isn't anything too serious. Rollins was great on Friday and hope she can have repeat games where she performs like that. We saw glimpses of Rutherford being incredible but just need more consistent performance game to game.

Rutherford’s performance this weekend is exactly why I thought she would be in contention for SEC POY.
5.0 kps, hitting .478 on the weekend. 20 digs, 9 blocks, 5 aces.
Of course there’s also Rollins, Tealer, Grome, etc. who are all performing well too.

I think the team really took a step up this weekend. if lamb can hopefully be healthy before their big matches I think they look to be in good shape

Great weekend for the cats and hopefully some confidence going into a really tough stretch of opponents. Really looking forward to watching this group improve over the course of the season.

Rutherford 2.0!!! Lamb just needs to get healthy and I think I actually like our chances against Wisconsin. Didn’t think I woulda said that before the season started.

Trying to figure out what devil magic I need to conjure to get youtube replays of this weekend's matches.
Goetzinger's been great since she came in against Marquette. 21 kills on 38 swings with 14 blocks, hitting .500 for the weekend. Don't think it's a coincidence she and Rebo have both been really good coming off their first true offseason and getting to train in Anaheim.
I'm a little surprised Melby got the nod over Franxman (assuming she was good to go), Skinner must've liked what he saw from her in practice this past week. We definitely need to get Lamb back, but Melby hitting .327 with 21 kills on the weekend is impressive.
