Hopefully Rollins is back in the near future, but can you imagine what Eva Hudson would have done for this team and the next few years for the program? Huge miss by skinner who instead ended up with Melby who I’m sure will improve over the next few seasons, but is nowhere near the talent Hudson is.

Skinner went all in trying to get Hudson once she decommited from Notre Dame.

Watched Kentucky play several times and they just don't seem to have the big arms they have had the past couple of years. If you can't get the ball down to the ground it is really hard to beat the top teams. UK has to find some big arms for next season.

Kentucky isn’t very good this season but it’s DEFINITELY not for a lack of arms lol

Thoughts on Bell taking Goetz starting MB2 role? Feel for Goetzinger, she played well when giving the chance but once Tealer came back, they chose Bell to stay in probably because of blocking? I still think Goetzinger is the better slide attacker, which UK loves to have.

I have always preferred Goetz over Bell... idk what Bell is doing in the behind the scenes but Goetz has always been better than Bell imo

I don't see any big arms on the squad. No one on the roster can take over a match. I don't see anyone that can just hammer the ball on a consistent basis. Don't get me wrong, they need to improve their defense and passing, but you need big arms to beat the best teams.

Bell has actually been pretty good since taking over for goetzinger. Not sure why skinner doesn’t use both more often though.
As far as arms, Lamb and Melby don’t have live arms most of the time from what I’ve seen. Big downgrade from Madi skinner and Stumler to this year which has hurt, but not the only reason we’ve regressed.

Rutherford is good, but it is really hard to rely on a RS Lefty to carry you through a match. I am also not sure I would label her arm as "Live". You need two to three live arms that can hit from the outside. Stumler and Skinner were absolute studs because they could hammer the ball and place it with accuracy. FWIW Grome might actually have the best arm on the team, but she is a 5-1 Setter so that isn't going to work. UK has a big athletic middle coming in next season that I think starts Day 1 for this team. She will give them a physical presence in the middle that I don't think even the National Championship team had. If you are going to beat the powerhouses in the tournament you either have to have elite athletes with "live" arms (UofL falls into this category), tons of size with an excellent setter, or have both size and elite athletes. I like Florida and Louisville for teams outside of the traditional powers, although UofL is starting to become a traditional power, they just need to win it all to secure a spot amongst the elite.

Not sure I've ever seen "live arm" used so frequently on a page on Volleytalk.
TBH, your post makes me think you've never watched UK volleyball. I don't even know where to start with it. Probably suggesting Grome has the best arm on the team lol.

I think Bell edges Goetz out in both of those categories.

This team doesn't have a shortage of big arms. Rollins, Rutherford, Tealer (and Bell) can get the job done in that category.
Lamb/Melby clearly need a quick in-system set, which requires good passing, our biggest weakness. THAT is what is keeping this team from competing with the top teams (and our inability to put together 2-3 points in a row without an error). Grome has looked much better lately, but her setting OOS has been erratic, to say the least.
To give Melby credit, she doesn't get blocked or hit out frequently. She can be successful without being the most terminal (look at Jordan Larson). If her off tempo gets the other team out of system more often, giving UK another scoring opportunity, I'd be happy. I'm not sure what's happening with Lamb. DeLeye coming next year is huge for the Cats.
Whitworth has also been really really good lately -- should give us some hope for our passing woes!
