Any projection on when a coaching announcement will be made? Part of me thinks it could be soon because this was probably not a sudden turn of events (though it could've been if Rose felt he couldn't reload for another shot at a title and didn't realize it until after the season), but if this was more unexpected by the Athletic Department, it could be a while. Penn State is not particularly fleet of foot for coaching searches for a few reasons, one of which is that the Penn State bureaucracy is... impressive.

Where is Karch Kiraly residing these days? Southern California, where he has always resided. Anyway, Karch just re-upped with USAV.

Yeah. I’ve heard Bret Bielema is interested now. You got confused because I had the word "big" in there, right? Honestly, I haven't the foggiest notion who will get this job. The last big opening like this, in my biased opinion, was Wisconsin. And that choice of KPS was obvious, except to Alvarez who thought VB was a cute sport where you didn't have to pay. With Rose's success, at least the AD won't think they can get someone on the cheap, like Alvarez tried, at first. I don't see anyone positioned for the kind of move like Sheffield was. Experienced, successful AND willing to move. People have offered candidates that fit the bill in two of three, but nobody has offered a candidate who fits all three. And I can't either. Stanford was bigger: defending a championship versus Wisc. Which appeared to be declining and no national champs: and have to disagree: Sheffield obvious??? Albany Coach, Dayton A10 conference, definitely not a guarantee success: this was a roll the dice by Wisc. AD: hi d sight says Alvarez made a good call; but the obvious choice: not

I corrected my statement and agreed with you on Stanford.
Back to the matter at hand.

Rose should have done what Pettit did. Go land your replacement and work side by side for a year, then step down. Makes for an easier transition. I don’t think the scenario was planned quite that well. If you are AD Sandy Barbour, who are top three candidates - and is there any chance a male even gets an interview?

is there any chance a male even gets an interview? There is if Penn State wants to give themselves the greatest chance possible at continued success. Why limit the field of prospective candidates over gender?

Penn doesn't have an opening. They filled it when Katie left.
University of Pennsylvania, an Ivy League School whose mascot is a Quaker.
Ohio and Ohio State ... also different.

Who are some serious names people think?
I assume Salima and Katie will be top if they are trying for it.
Other names that could be discussed: Sullivan Tamas Theis K. Cook Aird Hughes Fisher

The ONLY reason people are mentioning Aird is because he is an alum and a former PSU assistant, right? There is no way that guy has the resume as a head coach that could impress an AD/hiring committee for such a big hire. In fact, there are probably other, more qualified coaches that played and/or assisted at PSU that aren't being brought up. Aird is just easier to spell, perhaps.
I'm not trying to put Aird on blast or say he's a bad coach or anything. I just can't believe how many posters on different threads have put him on their short lists. Mind boggling.

Aird's last two coaching stops should be a big flashing warning light to a program like Penn State's that's already set up to succeed. He brings you all the risk and very little reward.
