I'd guess an announcement this week.
My guess is that it is going to be a head coach from a other D1. Who was the last head coach in the Big Ten that wasn't already a head coach, other than JFO?
Shondell? Both he and JFO came from club.
But then again, JFO was an alum of OSU. I'm just not sure the alums mentioned have the experience necessary, yet.

I think everyone believes Salima is top choice. Assuming she stays retired here is a list of current head coaching experience and assistants. If they stay in the family who are your top 3

Katie Schumacher - very possible
Adam Hughes - can't see him leaving Md right now
Erin Appleman - seems to be happy at Yale
Steve Aird - good god NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jason Kepner - very interesting
Current assistant coaches (can't see any of these getting the job, not enough experience except Mike S)

Just based on how long the job's been open, or based on info re interviews etc? Until I hear leaks of interviews or finalists, I'm guessing they're still a ways off. |

Aird would be a terrible choice. If he does get interviewed I hope it's a courtesy interview and that's it. But... I also think he may be one of the candidates most likely to get the job. This is where having a lame duck AD is going to be most dangerous. I don't expect Barbour to finish out her term, and I think she expects that, as well; not a whole lot of motivation to do this right. Agreed with the comments on Katie, as well; I felt there was a decline in assistant coaching the last few years. If Aird gets the job, I'm done watching PSU volleyball for a while. Would love to see Fisher from Pitt get the job. Ultimately, the new coach has to be a great recruiter, that's what's been lacking the past few years. According to some, we should have news in the next week or so. I think Fisher would be great...already recruiting well in the same state, has used the transfer portal to great success, relatively younger, has built his program to its best few years ever, and I think he's hungry to take that next step....which is where PSU wants to get back to. He and McCutcheon are my top choices w/o Penn State ties...Tamas might be my third. |

He and McCutcheon are my top choices w/o Penn State ties...Tamas might be my third. Doubtful Fisher leaves Pitt considering the program is on the rise and has been since he got there. I think he enjoys being at Pitt. I don’t see him leaving anytime within the next 5-10 years depending on if they can pull out a National Title within those years. Just my opinion though |
