This is an important set of matches coming up this week. Not because they are against the top teams in the conference because they are against solid teams looking for wins. LBSU's loss to Fullerton on the road could haunt them if they close the season well. Both UCSD and especially UCI have shown that they can play at a high level during selective matches. Both teams are not consistent but are very capable of winning plenty of conference matches. LBSU needs to start putting some wins together to build confidence and put themselves back in a a position to possibly contend for the conference title. Since the team already has three loses, they will need help from other teams to knock off Hawaii a few times to make that even possible. Looking forward to these two matches this weekend.

Beach is 12-6, 7-3.
last year at this time, it was 9-12, 3-7 in conference.
this Beach team is still evolving. Victoria O'Sullivan has been insterted into the line-up/front-row for more firepower, and she's hitting 0.328 in the two conference matches, which is stellar, and she was money last two sets vs. Davis
on the flip side, the Beach block which was #1 or #2 coming in to conference....had five blocks total all week in five sets as their blocking stats are towards the bottom of the Big West lately; so definitely a lot of work in the middle for Beach albeit when a team wins with low blocking stats, the coaches will always point to deflections that help tranistion offense.
Beach team is all over the place, was nice to win a match in less than 4 sets, after 5 straight 3-2 wins.
just hard to predict how this team will handle the last 10 matches, certainly not blowing away opponents, question is making incremental improvements in the blocking and maintaining the better serving and potent attack they showed versus Davis....which is pretty much the story for any team. At least it makes the Beach team difficult to prepare for, hard to know what to expect. They are fun to watch.

Tonight's home match vs Cal Poly is a big one. LBSU must win this one to contend for a conference championship. Their early loss to Fullerton has them outside looking in but anything can happen in the second half of the conference season. There are no dominating so any of the top team's can lose on any given night.
The Beach need to serve very tough tonight to keep Poly out of system so their pin hitters cannot just tee off and make life difficult. LB also needs O'Sullivan to come alive so they can have a more balanced attack and provide some needed fire power at the pin. LBSU has show some progress in different areas of the game the last couple of weeks but have not put everything together on the same night. I am hoping that is the case tonight.

Poly with 18 service errors and one ace is the story.
pretty ugly 5th set, and Beach ekes out the win.
Chacon hopefully ok

I didn’t see her step on another player’s foot. She landed after turning from the net. Not sure if it was ankle or knee, but looked like knee to me.

I think it was Phillips’ left foot. Yes, I think you’re right. On the ESPN replay, the up ref is blocking the view, but she comes down straight after the block, takes a hop and turns, then goes to the floor.

Watching the reply now it looks like O’Sullivan land on Bullis’ right foot twisting her right ankle. She looked hurt while being escorted out.

interesting, Dvoracek had a rough serving night after being on fire, and Hildebrand commented that the Pyramid is a tough venue for jump servers - assuming with a higher toss and looking up into a high grey background can affect the timing. had not heard that before

The exceptionally high open space all around the entirety of the court in the Pyramid can require some adjustment for a jump server and certain attacks. It's a different visual and perspective adjustment than even a large arena.

I am extremely happy for the team after this win. They had a tough start to the conference season but are on a roll at the right time. Hawaii will be tough at their place for sure but this team has shown the grit to win even when things are not flowing. I hope the Hawaii match goes 5😉.
The O’Sullivan injury will hurt this weekend. The second left has been an issue all year so hopefully Jordan or Glenn can fill in and be productive. However, need to get by Fullerton first since they took it to LB the first time around..

Fullerton has had the injury/illness bug. Few games back they were down to 9 players available. Crawford the latest to go down.
