Nice to see Tyler bring in another player in a position that was a little thin. Chacon looks to be a nice addition and will be able to play with her sister. Cannot wait for double days to start.

How many scholarships did LBSU have available? Isn't this like their 6th/7th transfer?
Regardless, I'm still really excited to see how The Beach perform in 2022. LOTS of potential!

Believe it is the 7th transfer! Beach lost 5 from last season, 2 to graduation and 3 who transferred. Tyler cut four players, Booth, Danielson, Fuller, and Whittle. Kaelyn Mack is no longer playing volleyball, and is going to a film school in New York. I’m guessing some of them were on scholarship, and that’s where he is getting the scholarships. Okay that makes sense! Thanks for letting me know!

Long Beach is looking to make a splash in 2022 with transfers, but they understand that the longer term outlook still needs a lot of work. They also realize that the staff situation might require some adjusting.

It would be great for SoCal to have the Beach in form. I was actually a lecturer there for one year. Best of luck to the program and players.

Kameron Bacon presumably returns--in addition to Nebraska grad transfer Callie Schwarzenbach. Other than these two players, is Tyler looking for yet another transfer to bolster the middle blocker position?

Y’all got a great one in Natalie Glenn. Small, but superb back row defender and passer. And she can definitely bring the heat!

He is using the portal to his benefit this season but has a few good high school players committed for 2023. I like his coaching staff but it must be hard for Nick to work men and women, especially when MV always having an extended playoff season.

Morgan Chacon
best proven all-around OH
junior stats in ACC
0.183 %
serving 0.970 (extremely high)
receiving: 0.960 (extremely high), 3 digs per set.
the kid can pass, which the Beach has needed
could play OH, DS, or even libero if needed Receiving, very good

Typically I can put together a pretty accurate pre-double day lineup but this year it is not the case. With so many transfers coming in, and many of them pin hitters, I have no idea how things will shake out. There should be plenty of competition for the so few spots a starting lineup provides.
Predicting the two starting middles is pretty easy since there are only two scholarship middles. Returning sophomore Bacon should hold down one along with Nebraska transfer Schwartzenbach. This tandem should be able to put up a formidable block and provide enough offense to keep the other side honest.
The setting position also seems like a no brainer with BYU transfer Meyer coming in. She is only a redshirt freshman but has all the tools to run Hildebrand's offense at a high level.
The most competition will probably be for the pins. The team returns two capable hitters in Kennedy and Williams but also brings in a boat load of hungry transfers: M Chacon (FSU), Sullivan (SDSU), Nemebrand (KSU), and Glenn (Min). Last year the team did not have an experienced 6 rotation hitter on the roster and that is why I expect M Chacon to grab the L2 position. However, I have no idea which two will prevail at the L1 and RS positions. I expect there will be multiple starting lineups early in the season. If I had to guess I would have Kennedy and Sullivan as the opening day starters since they were starters on their respective teams last year. However, I would not be surprised if one of the other transfers finds a way into the starting lineup after a week or two. I am personally rooting for Martinez to be healthy and finding a way into the lineup, at least for some minutes.
The libero and back row is also up in the air with returning libero Hoff having to compete with Giambi and some athletic newcomers. If Glenn does not secure a starting pin position I expect her and S Chacon battling for both the libero and DS spots. I could see Glenn being an attacking DS just like Knuckles at Nebraska. Again guessing, I would pick Hoff as the libero and Glenn and Giambi being the DS and serving specialist.
I am really excited for double days to start and to watch all these young ladies compete for minutes. Should be a great year at the Beach.

According to prep dig rankings, LBSU has two top 100 recruits coming in 2023: Ella Lomigora (MB) and Sarah Vellucci (L). Program needs to bring in some more middles so hopefully that will be taken care of in the transfer portal next cycle.
