I was disappointed with the cats this weekend. Pins were ineffective and passing was inconsistent against lower level teams. Middles were good when they got the ball but they won’t be able to carry AZ. Hopefully they can step it up! Agreed. Hodge's numbers specifically were not good after the first game. The middles had good numbers though, and Stubbe and Maldonaldo did their job. Sometimes teams play as well as they need to, which they did. But agreed they will need to step it up with better competition. I have to slightly disagree about Maldonado and Stubbe. Maldonado was MIA until the last set of the last game, and it took multiple games for Stubbe to get going as well. They should have crushed these three teams and instead they played down to their level.

We tend to play down, and then get shell shocked when conference comes around, part of the reason I wish we played a tougher noncon. I hope we make DSing Jaelyn and Sofia a full time thing. We need the best passing possible

Going into the season, I thought we might/would lose to them. But they just lost to northern colorado and colorado state. Both are really solid teams, but with them being 1-2, and us having a chance to lose against them, that doesn’t fair well for our RPI

www.instagram.com/reel/Ch8NvxBgJCJ/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=I know the competition was really poor, but the fact Arizona is #2 in opponent hitting percentage, only behind Nebraska, is crazy! Will definitely change after this weekend, but it’s a good sign. Our blocking is a lot better and we’re using more DS’s and it clearly paid off. If we can keep blocking well, and funnel to Hiapo when we aren’t, I think we can win more games than people expect. We’ll see how it holds up against some power 5 teams this weekend. Also, check out how cool our intro video is: www.instagram.com/reel/ChvtzRugdUR/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y=

I’d like to see Wray in as the DS to see how she holds up. Ellman did not seem to do well in serve receive against lower level competition. I think Rubio said Ellman was the most athletic player on the roster though? Kind of a scary thought haha.

Not a great showing on serve or serve receive for the Wildcats against the Tar Heels and, yet, they still were right there on Carolina's home court. Either the Pac-12 is enormously better than the ACC or the coaches just don't know what's going on (which I suspect is at least part of this) if North Carolina is in the middle of the ACC and Arizona is almost at the bottom of the Pac-12. Glad to see Sofia back and hitting well. Anyway, recap of the match.

The Wildcats went 3-0 at San Diego State's tournament this weekend. Two of the three went to 5 sets and Arizona had to come back from the 2-1 deficit. Good things: - Puk Stubbe was really, really effective against both SDSU and Maryland. This was especially important when Sofia Maldonado Diaz and Jaelyn Hodge struggled on Saturday.
- Zyonna Fellows really stepped up when Arizona needed scoring on Saturday vs Maryland
- After having some difficulties with her serve last weekend vs UNC, Ana Heath looked awesome again this weekend. Looked especially good vs Maryland on Saturdy. That's what I would love to see every time.
Not-so-good things: - On Saturday, both SMD and JH had considerable difficulties with the block.
- The Wildcats barely escaped from Sacramento State.
Recaps with comments from Rubio:

Every team should have a kimdc. Thank you. I appreciate it a lot. I credit the guy who hired me at our site. He was very committed to covering women's sports and it proved to be successful for us. Football was/is bad at Arizona, but we stay in the top 10 at SB Nation with men's basketball and women's sports.

Yeah, well, he deserves credit for sure, but last I checked I don't see him writing articles and doing the work it takes to get the people you're covering to trust you. But that's humble of you, with the right kind of gratitude. I hope it ends up creating a fulfilling career for you in all the ways you want it to. And like I said, I truly wish every program had someone like you. Except Nebraska. They already have what seems like 12 people covering that program as extensively as you cover Arizona, so they don't need you, lol.
