depends on how much utah and wsu restock. With Pukis and Tusa gone, we may be able to move past them. Utah will be interesting because they’re probably always in a play for a transfer, but they’ve lost SKT, Koerber, Drews, and Weatherington now just in 2021 (calendar year). We’ll see if Robinson and Stef stick around. I hate to say this but whether we take a step forward or not all depends on the outsides. They need to manage their swings better and will have to take a pretty big step forward passing. If they don’t, unless Dave subs them out backrow, I don’t see how passing improves. Knowledge is power, and since I didn't know much about Arizona, I'm feeling more of it now. Who are your 2022s coming in? I think I've seen some commits from my area, SoCal. the main two are Lauren Rumel and Ana Heath. Rumel is an outside for her high school, where she hit .400 on 6.8 kps but Rubio sees her future in the middle. We may need her pin depth more though unless she can straight up beat out a middle. She’s from Arizona. Heath played for a pretty good club in Texas and has the ability to play setter or right side. Leftie. There’s a lot of hype around her joining the program from the players and coaches. Excited to see what she can bring, at either position (or both with a 6-2).

Skinner isn't going to Texas but Parra should transfer anyway. she’ll most likely be a six rotation player this year for Texas but I’ll gladly take her at Arizona lol. I'll be very surprised if JE turns the OH2 position over to a 5'11" hitter who hasn't exactly lit it up in serve receive either.

I think she had the best good passing percentage for Texas this year (not saying much. but still). Idk, I just don’t think Texas recruits her and that she commits if she has no chance of ever playing six rotations. Although if it means she comes to Arizona to be with Sofia then sign. me. up.

Love Az vb program and how it's run. Imo, young talent and should move up the standings with the addition of couple pieces through the portal.

UofA needs a good middle in the portal badly. Beyond that, Rubio needs to get his pins to improve their ball control. Even some minor passing and defensive improvement from one or two of the three youngsters will make a world of difference if they can solidify the block a bit.

There’s so many in the portal that are quality, and one has already reached out to Rubio. But you’re absolutely right, I really do think this whole season hangs on our outsides ability to pass. If we’re being honest, the passing outside of Hiapo and Gedikoglu was ATROCIOUS. Even the DS he subbed in the most couldn’t pass. The middle back defense was horrible too, although Jaelyn showed flashes at the beginning of the year before her thumb injury. Sofia played middle growing up with Mexico, so that’s why her passing and defense is behind, but she’s a hard worker, she really is. Time will tell if hard work is enough. She’s so good out of the pipe though so it’s just a tough position to be in if you’re Rubio. Blocking on the pins should improve because Sofia and Jaelyn will have a semester to improve, but most importantly, Puk never learned how to indoor block, she was shuffle blocking all year. That change alone will be huge against opposing outsides.

Hypothetically speaking…if Skinner transfers to Texas, I’d love to see Parra transfer to Arizona and play with her friend Maldonado. That would be a fun lineup to watch. I’m an Arizona native and have been following Arizona volleyball since 2001. Lived in Texas since 2006 (Austin 2015-Current). Love Texas VB but still root for AZ. Skinner isn't going to Texas but Parra should transfer anyway. So you’re privy to Skinner’s transfer destination?

I’m so excited for this thread!! It seems like a lot of the high caliber middles are slowly but surely committing elsewhere. I hope we get Forte but I seriously doubt it.
Does Wroblicky get a shot next season? Rubio was hyping her up when he signed her but she didn’t even crack the rotation for garbage time. Also, I know this was addressed earlier but something has to be happening with China right? I’m assuming it’s her scholarship that Rubio suddenly has to give to someone else?
I think this team next season has a chance to be top five in the Pac. If Puk can work on her blocking and Diaz and Hodge can work on their passing and out of system attacking, it could be a very good season.
GO CATS!!!

I answered in the transfer thread but I’ll put it in here too. I hope we get Forte too, but we may be a hard sell for a one year transfer. Puk should improve blocking massively, she’s a smart player and will pick up swing blocking. Diaz and Hodge’s passing will be… the X factor for me. The new assistant coach needs to be able to coach passing. Neither of them really improved from first to second season, although there was no off-season TO improve.

It was so funny because after I put out the feeler in the transfer portal channel, I found this one and was like FINALLY! I was thinking Anastasia might consider here until I saw a post with her in a Maryland T-Shirt

Is there anyone international that UA could be targeting? Rubio seems more open to the idea after Diaz and Stubbe.

Is there anyone international that UA could be targeting? Rubio seems more open to the idea after Diaz and Stubbe. I think for this upcoming season that would probably be “last resort”, I think he really wants a transfer middle with NCAA experience. That being said, if he loses out on all the ones above the threshold that he’s looking for, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him turn to looking foreign late in the spring or summer. Puk was a super late signing. A girl from the French U19/20 team has expressed interest in coming to the states to play, but I’m not sure Rubio even knows about her or if she’s up to the quality he’s looking for. She looks good though.
