I am very intrigued by the hire of Plum. Since Dave was a setter, that's kind of been his baby. Dyck had the pins and Rita had the middles. I don't know if Gwen is still around as the volunteer; I have been so focused on basketball (and now softball) lately that I have been out of the loop a bit. She's still on the staff page, but Dyck was when I looked earlier today and he's been gone for weeks. I was wondering when Simone Overbeck was finally going to call it quits. I think she might have appeared in one set in 3 years. Too bad for her. As for recruits, this year they have Ana Heath (S) and Lauren Rummel (MB) coming in. I believe Ana is already on campus. Lauren may be, as well. I can't remember what Dave told me about that; it's been a while but I thought he said that all of them would be on campus for spring. Then, supposedly Kaori Robertson but she's a DS who signed last year. She's been at Arizona as a student for a year but wasn't with the team last season. Next year, the only one I can find is OH Sydnie Vanek. I always kind of wondered if Crouch was coming back. She originally came in as an OPP, but Ware not playing as a freshman made them change that. Then, she got concussed and stayed out for over half of the COVID-19 spring season. Then, the "medical gap year." She's still listed as a student at Arizona, but who knows how often they update that public information. Still waiting for that middle from the portal... 1. Gwen is not here for the spring, will be returning for next season. 2. All three freshmen are in the gym! 3. China Rai Crouch does not have plans of returning to the volleyball team at this moment (that I know of). 4. I’m waiting on the transfer too lol

I don't usually pay attention to the BVB team, but I noticed today that Dilara Gedikoglu is playing beach this season. A little surprised since this would have been her first chance to have an full spring developmental season with indoor.

A little surprised since this would have been her first chance to have an full spring developmental season with indoor. She's the perfect beach player, great, quick defender with a huge arm. I know it's been a transition process because Arizona's beach team doesn't really rip into the ball like she does, but I think it will be great for her off speed shot development which has been a bit lacking. I mean she's already one of the best passers on the team so it's not like she needs to develop there like the rest of the pins. Also, the pin spots are already solidified it seems like so. I think she'll excel at beach even more than indoor. Wishing her all the best, she's an amazing person!

He said that it was worth giving up spring to give Dilara a chance at starting for Steve. He said he knew how frustrated she was this past season and he thought it would rejuvenate her. I agree that Dilara is awesome. She and Merle were my favorite players to talk to the last couple of years. Will have something out about Lauren and the offseason within the next week.

The uncertainty of Fellows staying or not has to be off putting to any potential recruits right? Like what would the pitch be, “Hey, we may or may not have a scholarship available for you?” Can’t be going over well. Any news on when she may or may not confirm?

I think Fellows may have become a bigger option the longer things wore on. Dave told me after they lost to UNLV that he wanted a middle with "high level experience." I heard some talk about some they were looking at, but I can't say names because of how I heard them. They were being very selective. She has been fairly committed to calling it quits for a while. Midseason, he expected her to be gone. Then, she sounded very nonchalant about it at senior day, saying that it was her parents' wish that she play. I have a suspicion that if they got the kind of recruit they wanted, the Fellows talk would be over. I don't think they have the cash for both, anyway. By my count, they're already at 12 for next season without another middle. If Dilara is moving to beach (don't know that she is as far as scholarship, though) they're likely at 11. But I would need to verify that scholarship count.

But I would need to verify that scholarship count. Two scholarship athletes have medically retired due to lingering injuries. Two also opened from Weidt and Fellows. I think at least two of them have been given out, but no matter what there should be 1-2 more because of that. A transfer middle AND Fellows should be able to come back if possible, but I agree with the statement that if the transfer comes, the Fellows talk would probably quiet.

Thanks @uofastudent ! I counted last night from last year and thought I had 10 plus the two freshmen (didn't count Kaori because DS isn't typically scholarship), but I may have remembered incorrectly who was on scholarship and who wasn't.
Last two times I have talked to Dave, he has asked me about Lauren Ware because I cover WBB, too. That ship has sailed, my friend. 😂

Then to find out neither really have worked out (for different reasons obviously).

It was a really great class. It's still turned out relatively well with Sofia, Jaelyn and Emery, but I wish the other two had stuck, especially considering how many bigs Arizona WBB has. Would have liked to see Lauren play VB at least one season, but I kind of suspected she never would as soon as Adia Barnes convinced her to skip her first VB season.

I’m very curious to see who they are holding out for. It seems all of the notable transfers have made their decision.
