Carlie Cisneros had a really strong debut weekend with another good match against TSU. Jaelyn Hodge did well while she was in. Jordan Wilson bounced back. Arizona has depth at MB when things go sideways. The setter and libero positions are still being worked out, but overall they looked better than last season. Overall, it was a solid weekend for a team that needs to integrate and get confidence early on.

Fortunately we had this week's media availability after the conference awards were announced. Talked to Rita and Carlie after the freshman was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week. First weekly conference honor for Arizona since 2021.

First weekly conference honor for Arizona since 2021. I was happy with what I saw this opening weekend. Carlie played as well as we could have hoped, and there was more energy and determination from the entire team. I still don’t think we’ll know who this team is until conference play starts, but I’m cautiously optimistic that they have the talent to end the tournament drought.

This recap of the UA-Prairie View A&M match has some stats on trends in the early going. To put it short but sweet, Carlie Cisneros is the leader or one of the top 2-3 in every positive statistical category. Can't wait to see her grow.

Just a quick story on Whitney Dosty winning a 2nd straight Paralympics gold as part of Team USA sitting volleyball. They defeated China 3-1 on Saturday after losing to the PRC earlier in the tournament.

I've been talking to Arizona's 2025 recruits. First up was DS/L Brookelyn Hatton. I will have something with setter Chloe Giehtbrock in the next couple of days. I already did pieces on Paige Thies and Maya Flemister. I have been trying to get Renee Jones for the past year, but I can't get either her or her mom to respond. Her recruitment was odd, since she reclassified from 2024 while her twin is already at Pitt this season. She graduated from IMG in June and I guess is just working with trainers until she comes to Arizona in January. Not completely sure. Anyway, getting Brookelyn and Chloe means I will have something with 4 of the 5.

Here's the piece on Chloe Giehtbrock. Very interesting that she just recently changed to setter, then she had to sit out competition her entire junior year due to transferring.

I really like that most of the girls are going to be here for the spring semester. Am I misremembering, or was Rubio not a fan of players graduating early? I think Brookelyn will see the court immediately, especially if we continue with the two libero system. If we are able to get a transfer middle again, I would think Maya would be a redshirt contender, same with Chloe if Ana stays. Thanks again for the articles Kim! We truly are spoiled with your coverage of women’s sports.

We truly are spoiled with your coverage of women’s sports. I don't think he had a problem with it, at least not when I was covering it. Emery Herman definitely came early, but it was a wasted effort because COVID-19 wiped everything out that spring. I'm glad you appreciate the work. I enjoy doing it. Most of these kids are good kids, and I like to get to know them. As for redshirting, Ryan Windisch also discussed using one of the setters as the 2nd libero to get a stronger serve in there. He specifically mentioned Ana in that capacity. Chloe also has back row experience as a DS, so depending on her serve, she could be in the mix for 2nd libero, too. He said that's only possible if you have 3 setters on the roster.
