Jen Petrie told me they were ranked No. 2 in 2013. That sound right?

quirk in San Diego's schedule they start hosting LMU & Pepp then go a relatively easy 6 week stretch then finish on the road @ BYU, @ LMU, @ Pepperdine If they don’t host a regional, this kind of tune up for the tournament will make them lethal.

When's the last time a non P5 (or even P5) school rose 21 spots from preseason to pre conference play? That's a.) impressive and b.)shows how much preseason polls suck lol probably baylor in 2019 rose a lot. Idk how much but they are power 5 so

I think a few were scratching their heads they saw Blossom transferring to SD from Penn State. Kudos to the coaching staff for moving the chess pieces and to Blossom for executing. They have been really fun to watch.

Jen Petrie told me they were ranked No. 2 in 2013. That sound right? Historically, there seems to be a non-P5 team that makes VB peeps take notice every couple-few years. Also historically, belonging to a weaker conference is something the Committee pays attention to: a lot! Nothing against USD; ought to be one of the fun stories this year. But as far as the NCAA tourney goes?

Yup. 2013: Preseason unranked. #2 in week 3. #13 in week 5, then settled in at 8-9 for the rest of the season. Finished #9 www.avca.org/res/uploads/media/Week-by-Week_23.zip

Katie Lukes Named WCC Offensive Player of the Week
Redshirt senior outside hitter totaled 36 kills, hit .431 in wins over UCLA and SDSU SAN MATEO, Calif. — After a dominant performance last weekend that saw her lead No. 8 San Diego volleyball to wins over UCLA and San Diego State at the Jenny Craig Pavilion, redshirt senior Katie Lukes has been named the WCC Offensive Player of the Week, the West Coast Conference announced on Monday afternoon.
The outside hitter earned the honor after catching fire on September 16 and 17, racking up 36 kills and three service aces while hitting .431 across two matches for an average of 5.14 kills per set.
Lukes, a native of San Clemente, California, began her dynamic two-game stretch with a match-high 17 against the Bruins, hitting .412 as she averaged 5.67 kills per set on Friday alongside a pair of service aces to lead her team to a dominant sweep.
She kept things rolling right into a rivalry matchup with the Aztecs the following evening, ripping off 19 kills to pace the match while hitting .447 and averaging 4.75 kills per set, also chipping in another service ace on Saturday for good measure to headline a decisive 3-1 Torero win.
For the season Lukes now leads USD with 122 total kills and is averaging a team-best 3.49 kills per set.
Monday's accolade is her third career conference weekly award after earning WCC Offensive Player of the Week honors on two occasions last season (October 4, 2021 and November 1, 2021).
Lukes and the Toreros are back in action on Thursday when they begin WCC play by hosting No. 22 Pepperdine. First serve at the JCP is set for 7 p.m.

Are WCC games a $ subscription or are they free to watch ? (e.g., this Thursday - live and then on demand ? ) Free live stream. I don't know about watching delay, which I could use this Thursday. Live stream is free and so are the on-demand videos. If you go to: wccsports.com/watch/ you will find a schedule of the upcoming matches and videos of past games. I'm not sure exactly how long after the live stream ends you can watch...but I remember watching the USD-UCLA match the next day on WCC on demand.

Great win for the Toreros after a rocky start.

My impression was that it was USDs serve against Pepperdine’s defense - libero Patterson was giving USD fits and it seemed like USD was working awfully hard to side out. But USD was able to find some offense better than Pepper was able to find some passing. Very excited for them to get this one under their belts in 4 sets.

Another tough game, glad we got the W but wow that really exposed USD. The team just looked sloppy and slow for much of the game. Some of our experienced players really struggled. Hopefully learning from mistakes and get it back together. Go Toreros!

San Diego showing up as a potential top four regional seed in VT discussion board sounds a little crazy to me. I’m just hoping for a top 16 and hosting for the first weekend. Top four regional seems like too much pressure, though I’m sure that’s what the team is shooting for. Heck, I watched this Six Rotations youtube video today, and the host is talking about USD as a dark horse for the championship. Guest-host Mick Haley likes San Diego but questions their bench, as when Edwards and Lukes basically got shut down by LMU this past weekend. Side note - he commented that Edwards’ low hitting percentage may have originated with the the setting, something that I certainly have no opinion about myself. Ultimately they got their kills on the left side but at quite price. And Grace had another big day along with Stoner, so…
Quite a ways to go, and I’ve seen a few head scratching losses by USD during the months of October/November in past years, so I never take any win for granted. Considering the unpredictability amongst all teams during these opening weeks, to me, any win is a good win.
One thing is certain. USD is winning the service game thus far.
One question. Will we see a little more bench play over the next couple of weeks?
