Other than playing more pries the only possible hitter left on the bench is Goddard. Rumor is Hester is red shirting. There are no other hitters ready for high level play. Only other bench players are couple ds and backup setter so doesn’t look like anything will change there. I think they are sticking with who they’ve played so far.

I wonder if Grace will take a Covid year at USD. Whether she does or not, does Hester possibly have a future at oppo? I’m excited about the future in the back court.

I think 4th seed looks about right to me at the moment, especially since pretty much everyone 5th-10th lost last week. Hoping USD can hang on and not have any unranked losses this season, but being in the WCC probably means they drop quicker than teams in the BTN and Pac 12 if they lose. Stacking the preseason with tough teams (and winning against all but one of those tough teams) helped with this tough.
I'd like to see what Pries can do if someone is struggling in the front row. She is a capable hitter and won offensive player of the week in the WCC last year. I agree that other than her, we won't see any changes to the lineup unless there's a huge point diff in a set or someone gets injured. I also agree that it puts some extra pressure on the starters to show up big. I don't think Blossom had her best game against LMU but she's without question USD's #1 setter and I don't see her losing time either.

USD takes care of business, easily winning in 3 vs. Gonzaga
Katie Lukes continuing her dominating season, 15 kills, hitting .542 Toreros have so many weapons, Edwards, Frohling, Stoner and Blackwell had great matches as well.
Blossom conducts the offense so beautifully

i didn't get the chance to watch tonight but the stats are impressive. from last year to this year against gonzaga, lukes had the biggest improvement - she hit 0.080 on 25 swings compared to 0.542 on 24 swings tonight. the toreros still swept last year but hit 0.214 as a team compared to 0.505 tonight. it looks like stoner was really impressive tonight again - she's really developing nicely this year. blossom's doing a great job!

Pries' serving has impressed as of late. She hit a tough serve that resulted in an overpass kill for Edwards, then followed that up with 3 aces to bring up set point for USD in the 1st against Santa Clara.

BYU has been in the WCC since 2011. San Diego has won the series twice, BYU has won the series four times, and they split five times. I pretty much ignored the covid season, so in my mind USD has a chance to even the score in BYUs last year in the conference.
Frohling could probably give a rat's tuchus what her numbers are as long as they win, but I almost wish she would have a great game tonight more than I wish for a USD win. She has had pretty horrid numbers against BYU and I would love to see her shake that, plus I think USD needs her to be playing big this season to make it to the final eight for the first time in the tournament.

USD really needs Frohling to step up for them to make a deep run. Lately she has been a little underwhelming (for her high standards), Lukes will need help against the better teams

USD needs more production from the middles to keep BYUs defense honest tonight. Seems that the last few weeks USD has gone away from setting 1s and quicks that take advantage of Blackwell and Stoners ability to score and to also open up the outsides for more one-on-one opportunities. Seems that over the past few weeks the offense has gotten comfortable with just having Lukes and Frohling hitting over lesser teams. Or running a slide instead of attacking in front? All have been effective to a point, but against a better team like BYU maybe not? If USD can keep the offensive balance, then they roll tonight.

HUGE win for #4 USD tonight, sweeping #17 BYU. Sets were -20, -21 and -18. Edwards was fabulous, with 13 kills hitting .429. Benbow and Allen anchored the D with 14 and 12 digs, respectively. Blossom ran the offence really nicely (36 assists).
USD has only swept BYU twice (2016 and 2011). Last time USD swept BYU was in 2016 (Gengenbacher days), USD was ranked #6 and BYU was #11.

The match wasn’t even close… BYU has to find some production somewhere out of their O2 Solid match for SD!

Stowell was a liability for BYU tonight. She got 16 swings and hit negative. I thought Callahan brought some nice energy off the bench but she was inserted too late in the match to really make any difference. USD defence did a pretty nice job against Livingston as well...she takes the most swings for BYU and was held to .150 tonight.

BYU fan here--props to USD. I posted this on the game thread but wasn't sure if anyone would see it. It was the first time this season that I had seen them play and I am a believer. Edwards was the difference maker and Blossom is a great add--those are two awfully good transfers to add to an already good team. What I didn't expect though was the defensive effort. BYU had to have been frustrated when they would finally get a good swing only to see it popped up and kept in play, over and over again.
I will be rooting for USD all year long, at least until they play BYU here at home, and believe they can make a deep run in the NCAA tourney. I think USD serves well, passes well, defends well, and hits well. With Blossom distributing, that's an awfully good team. Well done, San Diego and Petrie!
