Kind of disappointed there is no video available for opening match tonight against Oregon. Two top 20 teams and no broadcast. Such a shame.

I only watched the first two sets of the game last night against Hawaii but here are my thoughts:
-I think the 5-1 is the way to go for this season. I don't think the 6-2 is what this team needs, especially with the lack of strong passing pins on this roster. -After being pin heavy for a couple of seasons, it looks like San Diego is back to their middles being the focal point of the offense. Blackwell and Stoner are the strongest attackers on the team and they should be getting as many sets as possible. -Beach is something special. Frontrunner for FOY in the WCC. She's gonna be great for San Diego. -All of the pins should be subbed out for a DS in the back row. I don't think any of the hitters have strong back row offense (at least right now) so I'd rather have another DS in there to help stabilize the passing.
This team has a lot of potential, but I have a feeling they are going to be a bit of a work in progress until conference play.

USD barely used a back row attack, so it would make a lot of sense to sub out all pins in the back row so we can stabilize the passing and defense. If USD is going to be a middle-centric offense, they need to do this. I do think they’re going to get a lot stronger as the season goes on and I don’t see them having too much challenge in the WCC now that BYU’s gone. I just hope they get it together by the Tennessee match since I’ll be going to that one 😂

Good win today for USD over the Georgia Bulldogs. Not perfect play but a better effort all around was good enough. Glad to see the team effort and win today.

I didn't expect USD to have a 4-6 record in non-conference games, but they do seem to be improving. One thing I've noticed is that they struggle to maintain their leads. Nemo stands out as an impressive player, especially when it comes to using the block effectively. Their serving is crucial because their passing seems shaky. Pries has shown improvement as an Opp hitter. I'm not entirely convinced about Tercariol as the setter, but she might be the best option for now. Let's hope they perform better during conference play, even though an undefeated season seems unlikely. Making it to the NCAA tournament is the goal! 🏐🏆

I think the Toreros have improved over the last few weeks. This team has the pieces to win the conference, but it's gonna be tough. With the WCC looking like a 1-bid conference, they really can't afford any screw ups if they want to make the tourney.

Allen has a history going back to BYU with poor serve receive. It’s tough when your Libero passes a 2. She’s really good at defense but needs to lead more with passing. I really like Pries on the right, seemed to work out better. Not sure why Hester not getting more playing time, we need her size at the net.

I haven't watched USD as much this year but looking at the stats, it surprises me that Evans hasn't gotten more time. Has the staff experimented with a Hoglund/Evans or Tercariol/Evans 6-2 much?

I'm also wondering why Evans isn't in the starting lineup. It's possible that her blocking isn't up to par, or that she hasn't had enough time to develop a connection with the hitters. Nemo and Pries have been playing well, so maybe Hester just got outdone.
I think the team will be fine as long as they can limit their errors and pass well. They have a lot of talent, so I'm confident that they can figure things out.

USD just needs one of the setters on the roster to find the consistency you expect from a D1 player. The position is still open for whomever wants it even after a month of matches and plenty of opportunities to earn it. No one has yet shown the location control and consistency to help this team win and play up to its potential.

Pretty sure they tried a variety of setting combos in first few games. Didn’t see them all but also not sure why Evans hasn’t had more of a chance. Maybe it is the size, not sure. I hope to watch in person in next few weeks. Have they announced when they might hang the final four banner? Would be nice to go to that game.
