Saw the last two matches with SDSU and ASU. USD rolled. I don’t think SDSU or ASU scored over 15 points, except maybe ASU in the last set of the day. Grace was pretty dominant, and I may have seen more slides from USD during the four sets today than I did all last season . Except for a mini passing breakdown midway through the final set of the day - it was Annie and can’t remember either Katie or maybe Annika Hester back there - USD looked solid solid solid all around. And they still have a few more pieces to add between now and August. Every player got a decent number of reps except the back up setters - I don’t think Tercariol was suited up and Hoglund came in to serve and only set for a couple of rotations when USD was up like 15-3 in the final set of the day.

Saw the Saturday matches with USD and came away impressed with the overall defense and effort. USD started slowly against a good Arizona team that came out playing a fast tempo, but USD picked it up and took the 2nd set by playing tall at the net and the backrow providing a lot of good transition passes to get open looks. Blossom is a difference maker, not only with her skills setting but she adds intensity and effort to the teams dynamic. Everyone in the front row, even a backrow hitter, better be moving fast and working hard on their transitions to be ready for a possible set. One that they may not have seen before, nor expecting. That started because of the passing and serve receive. Benbow looked really sharp and Jaworski was hitting the floor and putting the ball up as well. The blocking was strong and was able to block or touch quite a few, as well as forcing hitters into the strength of the defense. The block put up by Frohling and Blackwell on D is pretty much a wall. Lukes had several solo stuffs. I was not sure if USD was that much better than ASU in the last match of the day, or if ASU was already on the bus going home? But was hoping that was going to be a more competitive match than it played out. Some good points but ASU just seemed like they were done after playing against rival Arizona. Saturday was another good day for USD. I would think that the coaches liked what they saw, and it should be a good take away for the team about their potential for the coming season.

Hey there, I know you were probably more focused on San Diego, but if you had more insights on Arizona I’d love to hear it! They are an inconsistent team but I think they have the talent to make the tournament this year.

I don’t find it on the usd volleyball website. Where did you guys see it? Not on any social media either, so I assume swatson has the insider info. Apparently USD releases a newsletter periodically but I’m not sure who it goes to or how to subscribe to it. I got this from a friend of a player family member…I’ll try to copy and paste the link: express.adobe.com/page/8yG28f3PXn6CX/
