It may be a coaching issue, but it's not "unfair" to point out that Allen isn't a good passer. Maybe she will be in the future, but I doubt it. Koerber passed a 2.26 in the spring (Utah) and 2.05 in the fall (BYU). Reinert passed a 2.16 in the spring (Santa Clara) and a 2.04 in the fall (BYU). I think it's unfair to point out that Allen isn't a good passer without recognizing that BYU isn't developing good passers (and is making good passers worse). I would think that the coaching staff at USD will put together a pretty solid back row between Benbow, Allen, Jaworski, and maybe even the incoming freshmen Bennett. Coach Reft will have some ideas on how to give USD a solid serve receive and defense to get the ball to all that front row talent. If coach Reft can improve both Benbow and Allen's serve receive numbers even a little, then USD will be a pretty dynamic team with Blossom setting. It will be interesting to watch and see if a change in coaching and team improves Allen's numbers? And will Benbow be able to fend off any and all challengers for her Libero jersey? I can see that there may be some good competition this summer for the Libero spot and/or DS playing time.

I think Blossom is used to poor passing - USD will still be dynamic!

Report from a friend that was at the matches:
USD looked great, did not drop a set (8-0) and did not let a team score more than 17 in any set.
Blossom is a huge difference maker, distributes the ball beautifully and was able to get the middles involved. Lukes and Frohling were dominant, no team could stop them. They will be a top 5 pin duo in the country. Team looks night and day different from last year

That’s great to hear. So excited about Blossom. How was SR and back row defense?

From a couple of the scrimmages I saw, USD was good all-around, they looked relaxed and way ahead of the rest of the teams they played. There was not a lot of intensity as it felt more like a weekend club event with pool play, as it was meant to be, but what I saw showed a USD squad that was way ahead of everyone else there. They looked like a team happy to be playing after a long run of practice.

Does anyone know if USD will be hosting any Spring Tournaments this year? If so, when?

Does anyone know if USD will be hosting any Spring Tournaments this year? If so, when? I’ve only ever been able to see USD play on one Saturday each spring. So, I don’t know, but I think this past weekend may be the only public games - and, I don’t even know if those were open to the public this year; they weren’t publicized on the website or on social media.

The floor at the Jenny Craig is being redone this spring, so USD is not hosting any matches until that is finished. I think that there is one more round robin type scrimmage at SDSU Peterson Gym next Saturday (23rd) with Arizona St, UofA, and SDSU, and maybe a 1-2 other teams. Not sure about the other teams though and no idea the play schedule or starting time. I am not certain that the scrimmages are open to the public?
