Are there plans to build a new arena for Louisville? they got a renovation when DBK took over. used to play all of their matches at YUM but didn't do a great job of filling the seats. the location of L&N (where they play and practice) would make a sizable renovation difficult. they also just got an entire new locker room / team area after last years success. sadly, I dont think a renovation is in the near future for them

I suspect they were immediately sold out based on pre-announcement ticket requests. There's a chance some will be returned during the week by teams not using their whole allotment so maybe check in with the UofL ticket office? How can the NCAA in today’s volleyball world allow a team to host the first two rounds in a gym that small? I know there used to be a minimum capacity to host opening rounds and I can't think of any good reason they would have eliminated that but it appears they have or at least made an exception for Louisville. The gym barely seats 1,000 people and looks really tight on the sides. Listening to the Purdue presser today, it sounds like they aren't even able to accommodate visiting teams' families per the norm in the NCAA Tournament. I watched the last few matches this season and the "arena" looks pretty - it's just tiny. Surely the NCAA looks at this again down the road. All that said, it looks like Louisville is about 3 levels above anyone else in this group so it likely wouldn't matter anyway.

Maybe a stupid question (as rounds 1 and 2 must already be sold out) but I'm going to ask anyway: Are there tickets still available for the first rounds in Louisville? Might consider making the trip to see those matches if they are available : )

Right on- thanks, Jeff!

Last year they played the first weekend at L&N and the second weekend at Freedom Hall. I would imagine they'd move to a bigger arena for postseason if it's available.

I remember hearing about this on the braodcast. Didn't whoever regularly uses in Freedom Hall (lacrosse team?) let them use it because of a Pentatonix concert that was at the YUM Center? If so, the good news, they learned, and there is nothing scheduled at the YUM Center December 8th/12th

A couple of answers to points and questions today...
The NCAA has no minimum capacity for 1st and 2nd round matches.
There's plenty of chatter about building a new volleyball facility at Louisville, but no plans announced.
Bellarmine basketball worked very graciously with Louisville to work out Freedom Hall hosting arrangements for 3rd and 4th rounds last year. (Scott Davenport is an absolute treasure for the city of Louisville.)
Assuming Louisville advances, arrangements have already been made for hosting this year's 3rd and 4th rounds at the KFC Yum! Center.

If Nebraska advances, I may try to get tickets to the regional semis and finals. Safe to presume tickets will go on sale shortly after the Cardinals win their second round match?

I would think that would be about right. Maybe the next morning? I definitely would try to get them asap, though. With Nebraska in region, assuming they advance, and pent up demand here in Louisville, it wouldn't shock me to see the place sell out (about 22k).

It looks like the last time a minimum capacity was listed for NCAA Volleyball opening rounds was 2018 (1750 minimum). I can’t find any articles indicating why they dropped it. The minimum for regionals is 3000. Honestly, both should be increased. NCAA Tournament games being played in a closet isn’t a look that helps grow the game.

The highest attended NCAA Volleyball match of all time is 18,755: Wisconsin defeated Nebraska on Dec. 18, 2021 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio in the NCAA final. Would be super cool if this somehow was broken in a Regional Final match! Although I'm not super sure that Louisville is considered "driveable" for Nebraska fans. Hope we get the chance to see!
