So anyways the boys are back at it and we have a little under 2 weeks before they leave for Italy for some friendlies both the men and women are back training together, hoping for a nice block and hoping for a pretty seamless integration back into the team for Anderson

Why the left? Gabi isn't available yet. Matt and Kyle will be on the Right side. Matt can and will be a 4th serve receiver in a couple rotations which will reinforce an already very good reception trio. BUT This 3 man pin grouping DOES give you a lot of possibilities within these guys front row and back row attacking.

My thought is, if Anderson(who is an OH in the pro leagues, unless something has changed) passes better than TJ--put TJ on the right, and Matt on the left. that way the better passer is passing all 6 rotations---and TJ can help when he needs to.

I think TJ on the right was just an experiment and Anderson/Ensing/Gabi will hold down that position until Paris.

I think TJ on the right was just an A VERY SUCCESSFUL experiment and Anderson/Ensing/Gabi will hold down that position until Paris. Fixed again, I don't think it would be successful in the long run TJ clearly isnt as comfortable blocking over there (netted several times) and France figured out how to defend him better as the match went on worked fine for one match to shake things up but that's it

Russell Aaron OH Defalco Torey OH Muagututia Garrett OH Kessel Cody or I wish Wildman Brett (even for serve/defense)
Jendryk II Jeffrey. MB Smith David MB Stahl Mitchell MB Mitchem Tyler MB
Matt Anderson OPP Ensing Kyle OPP Russell Kyle OPP
Christenson Micah Set Tuaniga Joshua Set
Shoji Erik Lib Dagostino Kyle Lib
My guess at our 15 .....maybe Averill (I would rather spend time developing Mitchem)
No Jaeschke nor Holt available for sure.
Btw is so funny how many voted to spend this summer on youth development....and/or didn't think we were going to be on the podium. Tsk tsk

If you put Anderson opposite Russell, and next to Defalco, he could pass every time, and hit right side two of three rotations for TJ...a non-standard rotation, but workable.

If you put Anderson opposite Russell, and next to Defalco, he could pass every time, and hit right side two of three rotations for TJ...a non-standard rotation, but workable. I think one point for sure is that Aaron is fixed to be an OH. His passing/defense/serving/attack are all very great, and has become more balanced/well-round outside hitter throughout this tournament. Also, I think one match cannot prove anything, otherwise Hanes(who proved himself as reliable as Alan during the Brazil match) will be start-up line; Garret(who probably played the best match of himself in the national team since 2019 when facing France in final, which is really surprising) will be start-up line; TJ(whose passing is, statistically speaking, a little bit shaky than Aaron, but largely because he needs to score a lot of points in every match) will not be start-up outside hitter but opposite.... Anderson's situation is a little bit different. I really hope he is healthy and can spike as hard as previously, as an opposite, at least recent one year or two. If Gabi/kyle Russell/Hanes/Ensing, two of them can be reliable(to the level of Annie& JT of the women side, no one expects them to reach the level of Kurek) by the time of Paris, Anderson can become the 4th OH(after TJ/Aaron/Jaeschke) who serves as the role of Priddy(really miss him! ). To summarize, all the current seemingly a little bit messy situation is because the right side offense sometimes exists , sometimes negative. Two outside hitters have carried too much compared with other teams; Smith(no words, just admiration) and Jendryk(improved a lot in his spiking and blocking) also did their best when Christenson gives them chances during some long rallys. Statistically, Ensing looks great in terms of efficiency, but the thing is, he does not look OK as an opposite when facing strong teams like Brazil/Poland/France, Argentina also. (average is less than 10 points per match, and he consistently scores fewer points compared with two OHs in a lot of matches since VNL week 2....)Plus, he does not pass(like Anderson in one rotation which may help the two OHs a little bit). I know his defense is great, but as an opposite, the most important/No. 1 thing is spike, not anything else. I do not know if his physical conditions(no talent in a big arm) restrict him(again I am not professional, so not sure), but Egonu definitely hits harder/faster than him When Christenson gives him the ball, it is usually based on very good passing(thanks Shoji/TJ/Aaron ) and Ensing can hit the ball fast before the opponent blocking exists. This is really, really concerning. Anyway, nobody knows what the coach is thinking about the opposites. Hope Anderson stays healthy and integrates well with the team in WCH
