there's going to be an all-BIG final four one of these days:) I feel like we’re moving away from that. I don’t see anyone supplanting B1G anytime soon as the deepest conference. Too much money and resources being invested in volleyball by the conference as a whole. But the ACC took a dramatic leap in competition last year. I feel very convinced the PAC 12 is going to kick it up several notches over the next couple of years. The SEC is getting better, and will take another stride forward with Texas and OU joining in a couple of years. Still, the level of competition in the B1G during conference is next level stuff. Having the two finalists be B1G schools is impressive enough.

Initially, I was thinking the poll votes might be overly influenced by last year's finish. But looking today, there is, IMO, some history to justify the opinions or guesses voiced in the poll. 8 schools have been Big10 Champs in volleyball (I believe, Penn State 17, Wisconsin 8, Illinois 4, Nebraska 3, Minnesota 3, Ohio State 3, Michigan State 2, and Purdue 1.) The six other schools have none. Of the schools voted in the top seven in our poll, all but Purdue have made National Semi-Finals appearances. Three have been National Champions. This group has several runner up and final four appearances. Of those voted in the bottom half of our poll, only Michigan has an appearance as high as National Semi-Finals (One). This just interested me and is subject to error and not based on dependable research. Michigan State has also been to a Final Four. Granted, it was in the sideout era ( 1995), but still. Agree with you otherwise.

Thank you! My bad. When I wrote "this group", I meant it to refer to the fact that those top seven had a history that included several runners up and final four appearances in addition to the semi-finals they all achieved. I did not mean "this group" to only refer to the three schools with championships. Lack of an editor. But I do think I probably made errors trying to summarize all those years.

Good lord when does the Big 10 schedules come out? It was the middle of June last year, when Minnesota's schedule came out.

It’s hard to predict league standings when the B1G office can’t provide a schedule by June 3. However with the movement during the off-season, here is my best guess…
1. Minnesota 2. Wisconsin 3. Nebraska 4. Ohio State 5. Penn State 6. Michigan 7. Purdue 8. Illinois 9. Northwestern 10. Maryland 11. Michigan State 12. Indiana 13. Iowa 14. Rutgers

i don't see how Samedy's departure would propel the Gophers to the top, nor losing 5 super seniors would drop the Badgers only one spot in a tough league. the loss of Stivrins may be adequately compensated by the transfer of Hord (even that is no guarantee that the Hord at Penn St would be the same at Nebraska). Nebraska's got to be ahead of both Minnesota and Wisconsin for purposes of a preseason ranking.

Ok. Interesting. That makes a statement. If there is a network that could do this justice, it’s probably BTN.

I never really thought about it before, but volleyball media days is a pretty cool idea. I think this is huge! I haven’t even heard this being discussed for VB but this can bring great promotion and get our audience numbers to continue to climb! VB is ready to go to another level on TV!
