moanalua and the uh recruits lose a tough one in the final of clash of the titans... to punahou.
nice to see 2 hawaii teams in the final (apparently first time in the tourney's history that's happened) ...
punahou ... such a storied program ... they always find a way to be in contention ... even when rebuilding ...
this year's state vball tourney will be intense ... throw kamehameha with wade in the mix too ...

Thanks Cubi. Ahh man, what an amazing senior class. Steward and Todd will be six-year players next season. Wowza!! Please Warrior Nation....SELL OUT THE STAN FOR THESE BOYS! I'm actually pleased with the list of those not returning. Of course Thelle is the biggest hole to fill, but I thought Chakas and Chaz were also leaving, but I guess not... whewwwww. Now, if Buchanan or Shewie can step up their game BIG TIME...

I think some might have been mixing up the 2 Greeks. Dimi is on pace to graduate after this season and also already have 2 championship rings so for him, there is really nothing to return for. Spyros mentioned that he really wants to get his degree so he was always planning to stay for 4 years. I did hear Chaz mentioned that this could be his last season but I think the way he has played during conference might have changed his mind and could have a factored in his decisions to cocked back. Chakas, Galloway and Shewie coming back is huge. Along with Voss and Nusterer, we should again contend. 2 big holes to fill with Thelle and Dimi leaving. Shewie can move back to setter and will have a whole off season to work with the hitters. Wade had mentioned in the past that Alakai Todd was sometimes the best player in the gym. Next season, Alakai will have all the first team reps and hope that will help him elevate his game. I know some fans, including myself, are still unsure since Alakai really haven’t shown much even against lower competition but maybe his confidence will rocket when he knows he will be the guy and can just let it rip.

Was wondering about Hawaii going with three "outside hitters" next season in Chakas, Galloway, and Thiim. Hawaii might be really small on the pins, but I think Thiim would be the best best pin hitter option and would allow Hawaii to run a quick offense yet again. Or, maybe Chakas moves to the opposite position, but is still part of the passing rotation with Galoway and Thiim on the outside. I appreciate all Todd has given the team, but I have a feeling Thiim being on the court next season will be huge. The next question... Sheward to setter or stays at libero?

Maybe Hawaii should offer Parker Van Buren close to a full scholarship. I know UH was originally in his top 3. (I'm joking, there will be some money available since Charlie hinted at some transfers after this season). Hopefully, we can grab a big-time transfer.

Having 4 of 7 starters return for next year before that huge 2024 class comes in will be huge for us! I would have no issue with moving Shewie back to setter. He just has better command with his sets and his timing with the players is better. And mind you, when Shewie came to set this season....he was running a standard and basic offense. Nothing fancy. They move him back then he can work on the offense in really mixing things up and opening the offensive playbook. But to have your 3 main passers return next season is a great thing for us. But yes, Thelle and Dimi gone are huge losses but I'm not so worried.

Possible, but so much about Hawaii is the synergy the team has together and the understanding of the offense they want to run. That's why Sheward might be the best bet next season at setter over Buchanan. Case in point, Kyler Presho had all the credentials to slide in for Gasman last year, but Hogland ended up beating him out. Still, a solid transfer oppo wouldn't hurt lol. I think Hawaii would be better off getting a solid libero transfer so Sheward can move to setter.

Also, not like this matters but Mouchlias had two more years of eligibility right? COVID 2020 and possible medical redshirt 2021? If so, deng lol.

Are we saying all of these with the assumption that none of the freshmen coming in like Kai Rod would not be able to compete for a spot? Just curious.

Plus, Bradford or maybe Kelly returns to the team. Alakai Todd, Derek Bradford, and possibly Trev Kelly all should push each other for that OPP spot. Although unproven, one would hope an extra year with the team (minus kelly) should help.

Now that Senior night is here, we can finally get an idea of who will be leaving/staying for next year. The extra year of COVID eligibility has really made it fun to speculate who will leave/stay (and use their COVID year). Apparently there will be six players graduating from the program this year: three we all already knew of, Thelle, Humler, and Akana. Also Hogland (already figured), but also Mouchlias and Devon Johnson. This means that Todd and Sheward will be staying?!? A little surprised as next year will be like their seventh year in the program?!? Hey, have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes academically with them, but cheers to next year. Plus, Galloway, Voss will also be using their COVID year. Should make for an intriguing “rebuilding” year. Spyros Chakas? Staying as of now. But all can change in the next nine months. There are many players who have forfeited their Senior year (both eligibility and academic wise) to go pro. Of course, all I care about for him is that he gets his diploma first and foremost.

Chakas enrolled in Fall 2020 so this is only his third year. Mouchlias arrived a year earlier. Chaz and Guilherme have a COVID year since they were here during the Spring 2020 season that got cancelled so they will both be in their 5th year. Brett and Alakai have both COVID and redshirt years so they will be entering their 6th year. Devon would also be entering his 6th year if he stayed (redshirt + COVID). Mouchlias theoretically could have had two more years based on COVID and a possible medical redshirt year if he wanted to stay (moot point now). Once the COVID players finish their eligibility it will be much easier to figure who still has eligibility left and who doesn't.

Trev Kelly is not going to be in shape to play next season. The dude is not even on the team and is just a regular student.
Seen him a few times in the arena and he is slowing getting out of shape. He wasn’t all the good to begin with.
I’ve always thought someone like Cole Ottmar could make some noise. He is 6-5 and can jump out of the gym. I can see him playing over Thiim because Thiim supposedly is not that great a passer. He was face passing spin serves with open hands earlier in the year. Was kind of weird. Ottmar is said to be a better passer.

I heard someone said that he is a very good passer and he looked promising offensively in some of the pre-conference matches he played this season.
