Possible, but so much about Hawaii is the synergy the team has together and the understanding of the offense they want to run. That's why Sheward might be the best bet next season at setter over Buchanan. Case in point, Kyler Presho had all the credentials to slide in for Gasman last year, but Hogland ended up beating him out. Still, a solid transfer oppo wouldn't hurt lol. I think Hawaii would be better off getting a solid libero transfer so Sheward can move to setter. Are we saying all of these with the assumption that none of the freshmen coming in like Kai Rod would not be able to compete for a spot? Just curious. Someone alluded that Hawaii's bench isn't as strong as other teams. With all due respect, I agree. I think Wade and company really targeted 2023, 2024 and 2025 as key recruiting years as the current starters graduate in 2023 and 2024. With that said, I'm not sure our current reserves/redshirts will push for playing time next year aside from Nusterer and Choy. This could be what Wade alluded to that some of the underclassmen will be transferring due to playing time. With that said tho, I do thinkthe incoming 2023 class with Rodriguez and Todd may come in higher on the depth chart on the pins. But next season (with Chakas, Galloway, Voss, Nusterer Sheward) and the year after (with Kearney, Rosenthal, Nusterer, Hazan), it'll be hard to find playing time.

Nusterer will start next year no doubt. Not sure about Thiim starting at LS, kid has skills in the backcourt and is lethal behind the service line. He has pace behind his kill attempts but his vertical is not enough to keep him from getting stuffed. Needs to be more strategic like Cowell if he wants to be effective as a LS attacker. Eleu needs to improve his passing and setting, his strength is digging for sure. He will need to be better than Sears to see any court time next season. I’d like to see Alakai Todd get a fair crack at RS, not sure how he compares with Bradford or the incoming Yewchuk. New LS pins JT and Kai are legit D1 talent but Chakas and Chaz are elite D1 passers and hitters. Next year should be interesting. I expect us to be highly competitive. Tough to replace Thelle and Dimi.

Hawaii volleyball's 2-day sweep of UC Irvine puts UH back in driver's seatBy Brian McInnis Apr. 09, 2023, Spectrum News Chaz Galloway celebrated after a big point against UC Irvine on Friday night. (Spectrum News/Brian McInnis) Excerpts: HONOLULU — UC Irvine arrived at the Stan Sheriff Center with first-place standing in the Big West and one of the most vaunted service games in the country. The Anteaters left without the first and with the second in question. Top-ranked Hawaii took six of seven sets from UCI over the weekend to take over a first-place share of the conference along with Long Beach State heading into the final week of the regular season. “It was huge,” UH coach Charlie Wade said. “Long Beach and Irvine have to play each other (this week). Somebody said we have the tiebreaker with (LBSU), so as long as we take care of business next week we should be pretty good.” ... “It gives us a little bit of an advantage going into the Big West tournament,” said setter Jakob Thelle, “knowing the way they play and the way we can counter their plays.” Thelle had 36 kills, three blocks, three kills and an ace. He needs three more aces to match the all-time program record. UCI coach David Kniffin called the Stan Sheriff Center — where UH enjoyed turnstile crowds of 6,710 and 7,748 over the weekend — to a “lion’s den.” Kniffin thought that even the two losses in one of the toughest places to play in the country could help his group for the tournament two weeks from now. Irvine has ranged between third and fifth in men’s volleyball national attendance at its 5,000-seat venue, Kniffin said. “This is a great primer and super useful trip for our ultimate objective of winning the conference championship,” he said. “We didn’t execute on the volleyball part of the game as maybe we would’ve liked to, but I think we pressed against some of the limits of our current ability, broke through those and got a little bit better in some areas,” Kniffin added. If they move Chakas to Opposite and put Alakai Todd at OH1, you'll have 6-9 Todd, 6-7 Voss, & 6-8 Buchanan in front. Great passers in Galloway, Chakas, & Sheward in back.

NO..NO..NO…..Alakai is NOT a left side hitter. The dude also cannot pass. Never in a million years will Wade move Alakai to left. Alakai have yet to prove he can block when he played lower level schools, what make you think he is some kind of blocking machine? If Wade do move Chakas to OPP , Wade is not going to put Alakai at left. It will be because the other left side hitter is better for the team…..someone like say Kai Rodriquez or Justin Todd or Cole Ottmar or Derek Bradford. Alakai Todd moving to left has zero chance of happening.

Honestly, I think some of us are overlooking what Alakai could potentially do out there. I say give him a shot. Yes, I have my reservations on him but heck, for all we know he could beast it out in the off season and shine next year knowing this is his one and only shot to start as he grads next year. So maybe he takes full advantage of that and proves many including myself wrong.
I could see a scenario that if Oppo is our weak link next season....they go heavy to the left (Chaz and Spyros) and middles (Voss and Nuerster) for our bulk offensive production. But we see what happens.
But as much as I like the idea.....Spyros needs to stay on the left. He is too good to be moved around next season.

Why is Bradford getting overlooked at OPP next year? I think it was Koavball that said Bradford is further ahead than Galloway at the same stage. Galloway was good enough to start as a true freshmen. If Bradford is further ahead with a redshirt year, It seems to me that Bradford could be a legit option at OPP next season.
Whoever wins OPP position next season, it will be hard to replace Dimi. Dimi to me is one of the all time greats at OPP in UH history. He's behind Yuval. He's behind Clay Stanley. He's probably behind Rado, but only by a smidge. After that I don't think there is another OPP in UH history better than Dimi IMO.
