Isn’t there a chance that we recruit these amazing foreigners and they’re almost too good and leave after a year like Nikolov did for LBSU?

The good thing for us is since Charlie took over, I don't remember a time a foreigner left for other opportunities since maybe Jonas Umlauft in 2010? Had he stayed his final 2 years.. omg he was a beast at Oppo.

Yes, that's what I recall also. He said the engineering program here was inadequate or something to that effect. Regarding starters that left early, I recall Clay Stanley left early.

Clay left a year early. Nikolas Berger left after 2 years and played beach volleyball.
That said, a one and done like Nikolov is extremely rare. Nikolov was extremely talented AND had connections to pro teams through his father. It's unlikely that someone with that combination is coming here. Also, with only 4.5 scholarships to distribute, it's unlikely that Charlie would give anyone a full scholarship. Nikolov would not have come here for anything less than a full scholarship. Charlie also does a good job exposing players to the culture and community support. Filip thought he was going to leave after only one year because he was so homesick when he arrived, but grew to love Hawaii as time passed.

Today's throwback goes to 1999. Erik Pichel (1995-1996) and the 1999 banquet team photo. Those mid to late 1990 teams provided the foundation for the program along with the opening of the SSC in November 1994. UH would have its first official sellout in 1995 hosting CSUN in the first-round of the MPSF Tournament. For anyone who was there it was a magical event that changed everything.

Saw this. A little frustrating to listen to. These two obviously have no clue about the sport of volleyball, and Hawaii mens volleyball in general. Having said that, I would imagine this was a show they “had to” do. For 30 plus minutes of having to push through something you do not want to do is quite commendable.
