Ugh, that basketball HOF opinion piece is garbage. Disagree. The basketball Hall of Fame is way too lenient in my view. Vlade is in no world a Hall of Famer. And that's just one example. No. The basketball HOF is not the “NBA HOF,” which the writer of that piece ignores. Inductees are often chosen for their contributions across the sport, not just how many NBA all star teams they made. The basketball HOF encompasses the entire sport - college, pro, international, men, women, players, coaches, teams, executives, refs, media, and so on. I started laughing at the first player mentioned, Bernard King (completely deserved HOFer), and I pretty much quit when I got to Arvydis Sabonis, one of the greatest players the sport has seen given the totality of his career. The list did note some legit questionable choices in hindsight, but overall it was, IMO, lightweight clickbait. Sorry, I’m not having a go at you personally, that article just annoyed me with the snarky attitude.

I was mostly talking about the top 10 or so on his list.

I used to be an NBA junkie too, but I haven't watched a game since the 2016 Finals. Those 1990s Bulls teams are my favorite in any sport. The Last Dance was one of the best things that happened during the quarantine, as I got to relive my favorite era of being a sports fan.

Magic, Kareem, worthy......But this is the baseball thread right.. So my current project is Men at Work by George Will featuring tony Larussa, orel hershiser, tony gwynn and cal ripken, jr. (and yes I didn't capitalize their names because I'm not in school anymore. ) Next project: boys of summer by roger kahn. Have to get my dodgers fix.

MLB has not been good to me as a sports fan. Nothing but heartbreak.

so page 119 of men at work: some people believe that a left hander who throws 87 mph is as effective as a right hander who throws 92 mph. According to Andy Allanson the secret of baseball is to get batters in between, a little ahead of the curve and a little bit behind the fastball.

as early as 1877 the Cincinnati Enquirer used the term "bull Pen" to denote a roped in area in foul territory where late arriving fans were herded like bulls (Page 131)

Dennis Eckersley - the only pitcher to win 20 games in one season and save 45 in another.

First pitch of the 1980s was the split fingered fastball. Second pitch of the 80s was the circle change.

George Will said he saw his first game at Forbes Field in 1950. The PIrates replaced that with Three Rivers Stadium. I saw my first major league game at the Kingdomw. One of the cookie cutter concrete mausoleums that passed for a baseball stadium. Ah, nothing like indoor baseball on carpet.

Another interesting tidbit: Sandy Koufax retired at the age of 30 at the end of a season in which he won the pitching triple crown.
