You fricking idiots still debating the merits of John Cook in this episode with Kayla Caffey. Lol. What has the jury decided when all facts aren’t known? He was aggressive to the point of about any legal way to get the 7th year so Nebraska could make the final four in Omaha. What would get Nebraska in the strongest and most experienced roster possible to reach that goal and win it all in 2022? The X factor was the NCAA coming up with two scholarship losses over two years for one season of gain. The squeeze wasn’t worth the juice either decided by JC or his boss above. IMO and nothing to prove it. Go get more of a life for a little while till at least practice starting really soon. Thanks gramps for that rant. Now you best get back in that house to reading your paper copy of the Lincoln Journal with your koolaid red glasses before you catch a cold.

I subscribe to the Omaha World Herald. So sonny get your facts straight. Lol Some of the post(s) might be the truth.

It’s probably time for you to pack up and find a new hobby other than college sports. You say it’s only going to get worse? May as well see yourself out now then. How is it being s victim and a crybaby to demand what you think your skills are worth, and when that’s not met, to move on to a place that will give you just that? Both athlete and institutions make choices… why are you only critical of one? I am happy for her. If that’s what she wants then great for her. I just refuse to see her as the horrible victim as you people do. She’s getting a seventh year of education paid for and playing for the second best team in the nation. It’s all roses isn’t it? I think it’s funny that you feel like she’s the victim having to play for the Longhorns. Aren’t you proud of your team? It’s clear you’re the only victim here

I love when these pampered spoiled athletes become victims. She’s had how many years of education that she didn’t have to pay for ?How many people her age get that opportunity? Let’s stop the crybaby train as soon as possible. It’s probably time for you to pack up and find a new hobby other than college sports. Oh, college sports isn't his hobby. He pretty clearly doesn't know that much about volleyball. My best guess at his hobby? Logging in for 12 hours/day to spam a Volleyball site with threads copied and pasted from Fox News? Can't see how he has time to do anything else, given how obsessed he is with this place.

Maybe it’s just me but Nebraska has lost like 6 straight to Wisconsin, a conference opponent that should carry more weight and I don’t get the sense of seething by Nebraska fans. Not saying there ok with losing 6 straight. Nebraska beats Texas in Austin and it’s in your face 9 months later. Texas beats Nebraska in Omaha and it’s in your face 26 months later. And so on. Then you throw in Cook and Elliot are obliviously not fishing buddies. Nebraska Fan isn't chuffed about losing to Wisconsin because we know Rettke was a superlative talent. Now that she's gone we'll likely win the next dozen, so a little ho-hum there, you know? Wiscy fans know this too. It's not a big secret. I was out of town for the last week plus, and am just now reading this thread, so maybe there have already been appropriate reactions to that. But let's put a pin in this one to come back to later!

IMO, this confirms that Cook made a miscalculation and now was trying "to cover it up" by attempting to shift the "blame" to Caffey. Summary as I read the story. As late as just after the NC game, Caffey tells Cook that she is returning for 2022. Caffey also graduates in December (likely this had already occurred by the NC game). Cook needs one more scholarship in the spring for the two incoming early enrollees. Cook takes advantage of Caffey graduating to utilize the NCAA that allows her ship to be used for one of the early enrollees in the spring. Now is where the story doesn't quite give all the answers IMO. Why did Nebraska have to ask for a waiver for Caffey to play in 2022? This appears to be her free COVID year and should have been automatic. Did giving her spring ship to another player invalidate the automatic free year? Or is this part not being stated accurately? Caffey was still in school in the spring (if not, she shouldn't have even had the possibility of playing in the spring game). Was she on scholarship or paying for school herself since her VB ship had been given to another player? Conclusions (mine) The NCAA penalty appears to be warranted. I think Caffey wanting to return put Cook in a bind on spring ships and he used a loophole in the rules to get around the problem. However this created a bigger problem with no good way to resolve it except Caffey not playing in 2022 or playing in 2022 without a scholarship (use the available fall ship for the penalty). (Again, out of town last week, just now catching up, so apologies if this is dealt with in the next 20 some pages...) How does the fact that Caffey played beach (though just barely) enter into it all? If she came off scholarship for the spring semester, then playing beach would have been as a "walk-on". But then going back on scholarship retroactively means she had to count against the limit in the spring? And that's the "violation" to be punished? (Just barely, because she only played other than 'exhibition' in one beach match. But there was that one match.)

(Just barely, because she only played other than 'exhibition' in one beach match. But there was that one match.) She didn't come off scholarship. The NCAA has a rule that if you graduate in the fall, you're on scholarship for a fall sport, and you're ending your college career, the scholarship can open up for someone else for that spring. Hence why Cook complains about Caffey graduating in January. It's why she could play beach, but not participate in the spring season for indoor. Cook and the Nebraska compliance office did not anticipate the NCAA would then retroactively count her in the spring if she came back in the fall for a 7th year. Therein lies the rub. There's a penalty applied for spring of 2022 for having too many players on scholarship based on the documentation Nebraska turned in IF Caffey comes back for that 7th year they worked so hard to get a waiver for. There's no penalty applied if she doesn't, because then they apply the rule that she graduated and didn't go back on scholarship, so that scholarship can go to another player in the spring. Or they could have given Caffey a scholarship in the fall of 2022, been out of compliance for the spring of 2022 (retroactively) in which case the NCAA told them they would have to forgo a scholarship in 2023, which Cook/Nebraska deemed too high a price to pay. It's no wonder Cook is frustrated, frankly. And now it makes sense all the cryptic allusions he was making the last few months.
