Got to hand it to Portland, they are playing great defense and serving Grimmer to death. She is struggling with many of these serves today.

Tied at 23. Attack called out, but looks in for Portland. Challenges taking forever. Should be 24-22 set point for Portland, but no idea what this ref will do.

Call stands. I'm not even surprised. It feels like she's not even looking at the same footage/angles. Just odd. Not sure if she was challenging a touch on the block or that it was in.

Grimmer LS attack is dug over the net but lands out of bounds. BYU 24-23. Set & match point BYU. Portland TO.

LLarenas goes on two but hits it wide. 24-24

Tough serve handled pretty well by Grimmer (whew). Livingston hits it off the block and it sails over the defender's reach. BYU 25-24. Match point #2.

Larson attack is long. BYU escapes 26-24, 3-0.

BYU hits .326 (42/12/92) for the match but just .103 (12/8/39) in set 3, but Portland was even worse in set three, hitting .073 (13/10/41).

Livingston and Stowell both had 10 kills. Gneiting and Grimmer finished with 6 each. Jayde Harris, the reigning WCC offensive player of the week, led the Pilots with 12, and Lucia Busso had 10 on a .471 (10/2/17). She cooled off a bit after a really hot start, but that's a nice match from her.

At San Francisco it's 18 all in the 2nd set. Good battle going on right now.

Chillingworth LS roll shot picked up easily by the Dons. Petkova RS swing high hands off the block for a kill.

Dons middle kill. Dons 22-21

Helmouth LS kill hits aided by hitting the tape. 22-22

Helmouth goes long. Misses hands. Dons 23-22

Chillingworth kill. 23-23

Pepperdine SE. Dons 24-23. Set point for USF.

Long rally. Lots of missed opportunities for the Dons. Mishandled balls. Stanger backrow kill. 24s

Richardson through the block. 25-24. Set point #2 for the Dons

Ahrens angle kill. 25s

What a missed opportunity for the Dons--again. But amazing get from Pepperdine on the 3rd ball after the initial dig went wide off the court. USF passes the free ball too close to the net and ends up losing the point.

Chillingworth LS kill. 27-26. Pepp set point #2

Pepperdine RS kill. Couldn't tell who it was. Pepp wins set two, 28-26, leads 2-0 now.

San Francisco shot themselves in the foot with their poor passes of free balls on multiple set points. Pepperdine just kept the ball in play on several occasions and let the Dons mess up. It worked.

I'm stepping away for the moment. Might be back, but might not.

I'm back for a minute or two. Wheels have come off for USF, using their 2nd TO in set three after Pepperdine steamrolls their way to a 15-3 lead.

Pepp wins 25-18, sweeps the Dons.

San Francisco seems to play better when they get behind. They were down 9-23 in that 3rd set, won four points to make it 13-23, Pepperdine called TO, they won the next point to make it 14-23. Pepperdine finally won a point to reach match point at 24-14, but the Dons went on another 4-point run to reach 24-18, and had a free ball to make it 24-19, but miscommunicated and it died on their side.

Maybe not the sharpest match from Pepperdine, but they got it done. Chillingworth and Brown had 10 each, Helmouth 9, Ahrens 8.

Petkova had 9, Claire Crijns 8, and Richardson 8 for USF.
