Offensive Player of the WeekEleanor Holthaus, ISU, OH, Sr. Defensive Player of the WeekZoe Fleck, UT, L, Sr. Rookie of the WeekAveri Carlson, BU, S, Fr. Iowa State’s Eleanor Holthaus (Offensive), Texas’ Zoe Fleck (Defensive) and Baylor’s Averi Carlson (Rookie) received Big 12 honors for the third week of the season. The week was highlighted by Carlson helping the Bears set a Big 12 record for team hitting percentage in a match (.677). Holthaus guided Iowa State to a 3-0 week including a 3-1 victory over Cy-Hawk rival Iowa in front of the third-largest volleyball crowd in the history of Hilton Coliseum (5,015). The senior hit .366 during the week and averaged 4.0 kills per set. The three-time All-Big 12 First Team member (2019-21) moved into sixth place in Cyclone history for career kills (1,248) and seventh in school history with 63 career 10+ kill matches. This is her second career Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week award. Fleck earns her second Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week recognition this season after anchoring the Texas back line and leading the top-ranked Longhorns to a pair of sweeps. The senior had 35 total digs and averaged a league-leading 5.83 digs per set against Denver and UC Davis. Carlson was named MVP of the Baylor Invitational after having 30 or more assists in all three matches over the weekend for a Big 12-best 11.78 assists per set. The Bears’ .677 hitting percentage against Evansville set the Conference record, shattering the previous mark (.597, Kansas vs. West Virginia, Oct. 3, 2015). This is the Lucas, Texas native’s second Big 12 Rookie of the Week honor.

Oklahoma’s underclassmen trio swept the league’s volleyball honors for the fourth week of the season. Megan Wilson (Offensive), Callie Kemohah (Defensive) and Morgan Perkins (Rookie) guided the Sooners to a 3-0 week while not dropping a single set (9-0) to lift OU to its best non-conference record since 2013 (10-2). Oklahoma is the first school to sweep the league’s weekly volleyball accolades since Baylor in September 2019. Wilson led the Big 12 with 4.25 kills and 5.69 points per set during the week while also ranking fourth in service aces (0.63). Against Texas Southern, she tallied a career-high hitting percentage (.500). Over the season, the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Southwest Region Freshman of the Year leads OU and is second in the Conference with 159 total kills while also sitting first on the team and fourth in the league in kills per set (3.88). She leads the Big 12 in total points (207) and is second in points per set (5.05) entering Conference play. The sophomore has earned two Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week titles this season, three in her career, and has six overall Big 12 weekly awards. Kemohah topped the Conference standings in digs per set (5.33) with 48 digs in three matches. The 2021 All-Big 12 Rookie Team member leads the league this season in digs per set (5.24) and total digs (220) and has had double-digit digs in each match this season. This is her third career Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week nod. Perkins earned her first career double-double with career-highs in blocks (11) and kills (10) against Texas Southern. The freshman’s 11 block assists set a program high for an individual match in that category and ties her for first in the Conference for total blocks in a single match this season. Her .769 hitting percentage against the Tigers contributed to her league-leading .600 hitting percentage over the week while also leading the Big 12 in blocks per set (2.22). This is the Rosharon, Texas native’s first Big 12 recognition.

It’s surprising to me OU swept the awards, but good for the Sooners.
