What are the tiebreakers beyond head-to-head? NIU and Buffalo split their regular season meetings (both winning 3-0, which is kind of wild), so I'm wondering what the next part of the tiebreak is? Couldn't find anything on the MAC website. "Currently, the Bulls are in seventh place in the MAC standings. The final spot for the MAC Tournament is up for grabs between Northern Illinois (17-10, 10-7 MAC) and the Bulls. Both teams split their season series in sweeping fashion. With a win over the Zips and a Northern Illinois loss, the Bulls will take the sixth and final spot of the MAC Tournament. Buffalo would win the tiebreaker on division win percentage. The Bulls would finish 7-3 in the MAC East as Northern Illinois would finish 6-4 in the MAC West." ubbulls.com/news/2022/11/15/womens-volleyball-bulls-host-akron-to-close-out-regular-season.aspxWow, tough break for NIU if they can't pull it out over WMU on the road tonight. This year's MAC West was objectively the better division. BUT! Win and you're in, no whining about that.

Ball State and Bowling Green will share the Mid-American Conference championship as the Cardinals swept Toledo and the Falcons swept Miami. In the other two critical matches, Buffalo swept Akron winning the tie breaker over Northern Illinois to earn the #6 seed in the MAC tournament after NIU let a 2-1 lead slip away to Western Michigan and defeated the Huskies 3-2. NIU dominated sets 1 and 3 before WMU completely turned the tables in sets 4 and 5. Kitten picked all 6 matches correctly on the final night of MAC regular season play. The MAC tournament will begin on Sunday afternoon with #3 Ohio meeting #6 Buffalo and #4 Central Michigan playing #5 Toledo. BSU and BG have 1st round byes. The tournament will take place in Ball State’s Worthen Arena.

It looks like they unintentionally wound up with an East-West divide in the bracket, which is kind of cool.
The all Ohio final appears to be a bit of a long shot for me, but I have faith that Toledo can rub out the lone Michigan team. Buffalo might be a bit of a problem on the other end, but between Ohio and BG, I don't think the Bulls will upset their way to a final appearance. Ball State looms large, but they lost three matches vs the field during the regular season. They were swept by the Chips to open Conference play, and they recently got upended by the Bobcats. So they are beatable.

Drat on NIU, but they had a chance to close it out and get in and didn't.

Miami finishes last in the MAC. Two years in a row where they've been at the bottom of the league with only 7-8 wins overall. Does Condit hang it up and retire? She's obviously built that program and been there nearly for 40 years. Anyone hear anything?

It’s amazing how quickly things change in the MAC. For years, Ball State, Western Michigan, Northern Illinois, Ohio and Miami were the front runners in the MAC. Only BSU, and Ohio remain perennial contenders. BSU is the only MAC school to qualify for every MAC tournament in history. In recent years, Bowling Green has made a resurgence and has won the MAC East the past few years. Former powers NIU, WMU and Miami are not in the MAC tournament field. 3 years ago, Miami played for the MAC tournament championship and then dropped to last place in the MAC East the past two years. Condit has had a great career at Miami but has to be thinking about passing on the baton. We should know soon her decision. She is well liked and respected by coaches around the country, but every coach has to retire at some point.

I didn’t have Ray Gooden as the first MAC coach to be let go this off-season.

Dang, you caught me. Miami? Maybe Carolyn Condit gets to write her own ending and they’ll let her stay there as long as she wants until she retires, but I also thought Ray had that type of security.

The 2022 MAC tournament begins today in Ball State University’s 11,500 seat Worthen Arena where the Cardinals have not lost a MAC match in the past two years. #1 seed Ball State and #2 seed Bowling Green will receive 1st round byes in the 6 team tournament. Quarterfinal matches begin today at 4:30 on ESPN+ and will feature #4 seed Central Michigan and #5 seed Toledo. CMU (12-6) may be the most physical team in the tournament and the tournament’s dark horse. The Chips defeated Ball State twice to begin the season in Mount Pleasant. Toledo (11-7) was hammered by Ball State on Wednesday, but played without a couple key starters. It remains to be seen if the Rockets will be at full strength today. Match 2 will pit #3 Ohio (14-4) and Buffalo (10-8). The Bulls slipped in the back door after finishing in a tie with Northern Illinois and may have cost Huskies long time successful coach “DJ” Ray Gooden his job. Ohio is an extremely streaky team that can beat anyone on a given night as they did Ball State just over a week ago. The Cardinals then crushed the Bobcats the following night. Buffalo finished the season with a bang winning 7 of their last 8 MAC matches but lack MAC tournament experience. The tournament will be exciting with Ball State being the favorite and Bowling Green and Ohio having an outside chance. Central Michigan is the team that could spill the beans. Here are Kitten’s picks for Sunday: Cental Michigan over Toledo 3-1, Ohio over Buffalo 3-1.

CMU’s win sets the stage for a 4:30 date with #1 seed Ball State today. The Cardinals are the hottest team in the MAC winning 13 of their past 14 matches. The match will come down to the Cardinals supreme passing and defense. CMU defeated BSU twice to begin the MAC season in Mount Pleasant however, this match is on the Cardinals home court where BSU has not lost a MAC match in 2 years.
