If they’re going to call it, call it early. Don’t wait until the mid point of the 4th match after the tOSU coaches have been hypothetically working you all match. I agree with you entirely, but I also think people have been convinced a little hard by Paul Sunderland. Lol IMO Logan's throw against Nebraska in the fourth set was a frustration play and it looked like she was trying to pitch a softball. Him going on and on about how that wan't any different than the others and Salima being like "... Um well... yeah..." I felt for her. I agree. some of those throws were definitely a little questionable. I think Texas was benefitted if anything due to the amount of points Eggleston scored throwing the ball aside from the one time they actually called her for it

For the OSU folks here, do y'all think it is worth it to rent a car? What's the Uber/Lyft situation in Columbus? What area are you staying in and what do you plan to do besides the matches? There are plenty of uber/lyft but unfortunately Columbus is very car dependent outside a few neighborhoods. I'm staying at the Aloft near the University. I'll probably just do a lot of walking around the campus? Def want to get all of my steps in but I know that my view of walking has drastically changed now that I live in NYC. I know most cities outside of NYC are not very walkable so I'm worried I'll have to cross some highways, major intersections to get to where I need to go.

The frustration was that it was called. It took the air out of the team for sure. During the play it was absolutely about her helping to bring the team from behind. It’s not like the set was a lost cause at that point. Win the set and you’re going to five. And set two had gone to the wire (after another ferocious Texas comeback). IMO they changed the rules in the off season about assistant coaches interacting with the refs primarily because of Tyler Hildebrand in that match. He was very aggressively going after the ref to call that play from the beginning of the match. Good gamesmanship on the Nebraska side. A lack iof consistency and a wilting in the face of it from the officials’ side. Obviously from a Texas perspective. I’m not even pretending to be objective here.

The match won’t be decided by throws or non-calls of throws.

I wasn’t trying to start anything, I just felt that call was too obvious to let slide. One could argue that allowing a player to steer the ball to a specific location on the court would also dramatically effect the outcome. I was actively rooting for TX to push to five and I was like “Oh gross” on that play. I didn’t think it was too much of a question, but I’m open to reinterpretation. Also, I will share my own bias in saying that I watched the B1G all season long and you can’t even come close to carrying the ball in that league, so it may have just looked worse to me than it was.

The match won’t be decided by throws or non-calls of throws. Rader, Podraza and Londot will be 3 of the best players on the floor, I think it will come down to pin play in system and in transition. I give the slight edge to Texas right now.

The match won’t be decided by throws or non-calls of throws. True, but that won't stop us here at VT!

The match won’t be decided by throws or non-calls of throws. It may not be decided, but it’s going to be commented on. And the teams are close enough competitively it could easily make a difference. If they’re going to call it aggressively in an effort to “clean things up” (I’d like it called on setters on their kills on two as well, then), I just want it to be consistent throughout the match. If it’s inconsistent it’s unfair to the opponent that Texas received points early for a hit that’s against the rules. If it’s called late you’ve set the expectation the hit is within the rules, but now suddenly it’s not. Call it early, or don’t call it. That’s all I’m saying. Be consistent. For both teams.

You are right next to the Olentangy Trail, which is a bike path that connects the downtown area through campus and to the north. You can walk on that or use an electric scooter or a rental bike. Also, if you are on campus there are several campus bus lines (OSU CABS) that are free and there is one route that takes you up to Covelli. Also there are a couple of city bus lines (COTA) that might be useful. There shouldn't be any problems with walking in that area.

Lived in NYC for eleven years, can confirm that Columbus is more walker friendly because it has dedicated walking / biking paths.

Haha! I don’t feel like you’re starting anything. I am completely biased on this, and I’ll readily admit it. It was a very emotional call for me as a fan and obviously I still have a lot invested in it. Probably always will. I’m not even saying it determined the outcome of the set. Nebraska would have still had a healthy lead, and they had outplayed Texas all match long. Nebraska earned that win without a doubt. The frustration for me was more about watching the Nebraska coaches - specifically Hildebrand - ride the refs relentlessly about Eggleston’s style of play, and then get rewarded for it with that call in the fourth set. If I was a Nebraska fan I’d be like, “Damn straight. That’s just good strategy. We weren’t going to get that call in UT’s home gym any other way.” But I’m not a Nebraska fan, so it really sticks in my craw.

Did Ohio St play any pre-season matches? They bring back so many starters may not be as critical. For Texas Rice was a really god pre-season warmup and in the first 3 sets (most likely starting rotations) they really looked like the team we have been waiting on. Not according to their listed schedule. I would guess they had a scrimmage which was not open to the public. Texas having scrimmage at home and then an exhibition match at Rice, both in front of fans in the seats could really help this weekend, especially in Friday night's opening match in Columbus.

We need to get Pati Rolf out of retirement for this one. Saw Pati in Tulsa last month. I'm sure we could at least charter the R1 that shot down Jordan Larson's power tips.
